Me and hubby are currently going through all the tests after nearly 2.5 years trying to conceive.

Hubby gave a sperm sample and as receptionist wouldn't give results we knew they were not therefore normal. Hubby had telephone app with doc and hubby being hubby didn't ask all the questions I would've.

From what my hubby has said they've told him there is sperm but there not sure how much and he has to have bloods taken:wacko:

So what is it they could be thinking if they wanna do bloods:shrug: Has anyone else's OH had to do this following sperm sample ?

Any advice would be much appreciated xx

Cheers for replying, so could it be the case his sperm levels are low due to a hormone defficiency/imbalance?

Hey hun, they would be checking hormone/testosterone - if you do end up with a fertility referral they may do karaotype testing for chromosome abnormality.

Maybe DH can call the doctor or make an appt for you both to speak to him and get the full details. Starting him on a healthy drug regime could help plus a second SA 3 months apart will show any improvement and if it's a one off - apparently 90% of SA's performed on the NHS show as 'normal' on the second one.

Good luck :hugs:

Thanks for that. Once he has given his bloods (Monday) going to make an app for us both to see doc to discuss results. They did mention about doing a follow up test. We have already been referred to gynae anyway so it is not as if we are waiting on these results before being referred.

That could be the cause of low sperm count, but I think it's quite rare.
I think it's just part of the tests they have to do even if the problem lies with the feamle partner :flower:

My OH had to give bloods too. It's to check for a few things:
1. Several types of hormone levels, shows if it's healthily producing sperm
2. Sperm antibodies if there are any
3. Sexually transmitted deseases (may not be in your OH's case). Many STD causes fertility problems. Also if you're planning to go through IVF or ICSI, it's required.

Thanks everyone, seems a bit clearer now.

If the problems lay solely with the male is it a case of going straight into ICSI or are there other options before then ?

There's a drug he may be offered called tamoxifen. . .
We were offered it but chose not to use it O:)

If it's a male issue, it pretty much is straight to ICSI. It was for us, and only then did they realised my eggs were pretty frazzled too, as my blood tests came back as expected to a 36 year old (slightly high FSH, but not outside "normal" parameters)!

Like the others said, it will be to test his hormone levels but just wanted to jump in and mention something we found out yesterday. 'IF' your hubby's results come back saying that his FSH level is low, ask you Dr about tamoxifen.

Wishing you all the best x

We got offered it even though his levels were fine.
