Will Metformin help if I am not insulin resistant?

Hi there

I have PCOS (diagnosed through ultrasound) and my only real symptom is excess hair (so I am guessing increased androgens).

I am having my LH/FSH levels checked today.

Before I was on the pill, my periods were reasonably regular, at around 28-32 days, although I didn't know about charting so I don't know if I was ovulating.

I was on the birth control pill for 8 months (Dianette).

Since coming off, I have not ovulated (I have been charting temps, CM, CP & using OPK's). I have therefore not had an AF.

It has now been nearly 100 days.

4 Weeks ago, I started taking pregncare conception (B12, Folic Acid & Zinc.)

3 Weeks ago to doctor prescribed me Metformin, 750mg per day.

On the same day, I also started taking Vitex at 1000mg per day. One week ago I increased this to 2000mg.

Nothing is happening!

On the weekend, I decided to do a home "insulin resistance" test. I took my fasting blood glucose level with a home checking machine (accucheck) and it was 5.5 (normal).

2 Hours after a sugary drink, it was also 5.5 (so normal, and therefore not insulin resistant).

First of all, is this accurate?

Secondly, does mean that the metformin will not help me, as I am not insulin resistant, and I thought Metformin worked by regulating insulin causing infertility?

All info appreciated, many thanks!
