So woke up this morning with a text from my midwife team asking me to come in on Friday for my booking appointment (yay!) ... With my first pregnancy I had to wait till after my 12 week scan!

It's also really nice because I have the same midwife as I had with my daughter! Can't wait to show her how much she's grown up! I have a specialist team of midwives that give closer care due to previous mental health issues but I wouldn't change them, they are lovely!

Anyway so I was wondering if anyone knows the chance of her finding the heartbeat at around 8ish weeks... Using her doppler? I've been so anxious having to wait for my 12 week scan (June 5th)

Anyone had any success with this?

:flower:

Mine didn't even try yesterday! Nor feel my tummy! I think its unreliable at that stage so they don't do it routinely as not finding it would make you anxious... But let me know if yours does differently.

My appt was done at hyper speed tho as she was running 40 mins late and if she took the full 60 mins I would have missed my daughters swimming lesson! Rattled through it in 25 mins!

Mine didn't even try and that was at 12+4. As PP said I think they avoid it so not to worry us if they can find anything. The first time she tried with me I was 16 weeks and even then she made me promise not to get upset if we didn't hear anything!

The heartbeat can usually be detected at 6 weeks

My midwife said should would try at my next appt and that we should hear it. I will be 13-14 wks at that time

My current OB said that they'll take a listen for baby's heart beat on Friday (8+4) but not to get my hopes up as they believe it's too early to hear it.

On an ultrasound for sure but a doppler can't pick up a heartbeat till later. We were able to just barely hear with the doppler at 9 weeks with my son, so it will probably be a little early to hear your little one.

I don't think it is standard in the UK for a midwife to try at 8 weeks as the chances of finding the heartbeat with a doppler are so so small. Talk to her though, see what she says.

My midwife didn't try until 16 weeks.

I think she won't even try. Normally by protocol they statart using the doppler at the appointment after the 12 weeks scan as you fundus already will superpass the puvic bone :D xxx

In the uk they don't usually try until 16w. They didn't find either of mine until the 24w appt.

nooo not at 8 weeks, mine didnt try until 19 weeks, and didnt feel my tummy until 28 weeks, at 8 weeks your uterus is still way beneath your pubic bone, what wud b the point in feeling your tummy

I was wondering the same thing, at my next appt the doctor is going to try and hear the baby and measure my uterus, I'll be 3 days short of 9 weeks! I don't think he'll be able to see or hear anything. With my last pregnancy they heard the heart beat at 9 weeks with the doppler and I was quite surprised, so it would be nice, but I doubt it.
