They also seem to think it's okay for a woman to be raped by her husband .. because he has needs .. :dohh:

That's awful :|

I also believe that if the UK had been asked for help and we refused, people would just be as likely to say that we need to get involved because it's against human rights and we have influence enough to save her.

Altho its not right, this isnt uncommon in that country. Surely if we get involved with this case then we should help others, and then theres all the women who have died before. Its not fair to just help one women. We need to sort out our country before we help others.

Agreed with earlier posts, unfortunately this has happened many times before in that country yet we have not got involved. I know somebody who used to work in the Home Office and they came accross many similar stories. That said, if we can do something to save one person then it's better than none, but does not excuse those who have died before!

EWhile I don't agree with this it is their countrt and their culture so it'd their rules.

I couldn't read the article but surely this wiman knew the consequences of her actions.

If we stopped sticking our noses in where its not wanted I'm sure we wouldn't have so many enemies.

There is something every day in the newdpapers moaning that someone got told off or something got banned through fear of offending the Muslim community and its always a moan yet it seems ok for us to tell another country what is right and wrong.

according to the article she denies it.....she was convicted going off majority 3-2 , on only their 'feelings' too
Unbeleivable.

The Iranian Embassy in London today denied reports by media and human rights groups that a convicted adulterer would face death by stoning for her crime.

surely by staying silent their views and discrimination are never challenged.

couldn't agree more

I really hope it doesn't happen, and she doesn't have to die at all. Doesn't seem a very fair was of trialling someone when personal views are taking into account

Would they admit it though? No country wants to let the world know that they are stoning a woman to death based on a trial of personal feelings instead of evidence.

But its their country its nothing to do with us  I agree with Kala that if we learned to keep our mouths shut we wouldnt have as many enemies. Its not our place. We dont run that country and thus have no say its as simple as that. We can shake our heads, and while it would turn most of our stomachs its how its done in some countries. Who are we to get holier than though about this when our country is in a bad enough state! In their culture adultery is a crime. While I disagree, I still dont think we should get involved. Where will it stop?

I meant, would Iranians actually admit to this going on in their country? Especially since the system of trial they used was far from fair.

We got asked for help, so we are following a request. I don't really see anything wrong what that. It's not like we just charged in and put our foot down on the matter. If it had came to light that someone had put their life on the line to request our help on a human rights matter and we ignored it, people would be wondering why and demanding we do something. It's a catch 22 for the government and by bringing it to the attention of the UN they are effectively taking it out of our governments hands and letting a multitude of people deal with it, not just one country.

i guess i understand ppl not wanting "Their" country to get involved but if it was you or your mother, sister, daughter about to be stone to death you'd want some one, anyone to step in esp. if there is no real evidenced and the judges are just going off of personal feelings!

Sad

If this is their culture and beliefs, I wonder how many other women would go out and cheat and get stoned to death, just to leave a bad marriage. Instead of living their lives controlled by every move by their husband.

So what do we do when people in their hundreds start coming to us for help? All im saying is by helping this woman we are creating a situation where we will be expected to do the same in future. Where will it end? Its like I said, we view it as barbaric to do this to someone, but for these people this is what the punishment is for this 'crime' as they see it. this has been going on for decades. And as horrific as it appears to us who are we judge other peoples cultures.

The iranian judicial system thats in place, allows for many convictions being passed which are based solely on circumstantial evidence, at the discretion of the judge and that judges feelings or reasonings. We cannot involve ourselves in this imo. Their Law is their law it is not ours to question or manipulate. Thats just my opinion though and id stress that i am not saying in anyway whats happening to this woman is right.

It is barbaric I dont think anyone is saying otherwise BUT its not our country or legal system. They probably think we're FAR too lenient on criminals.

+ yes, I saw a pic of a woman who was crying and looked very distressed being buried upto her shoulders :(

I don't think it matters we were asked to help. If say a muslim man came over here and married 5 women we would prosicute for bigamy, how would the public react if he asked a middle eastern country for help as he didn't think he should be punished.

Its just not our buisness.

Very sad but I also don't think our country should get involved at all.
