As some of you know, I was told to give LO an expressed bottle feed every day so that she is used to taking a bottle. We do this every night and my husband usually gives it for the middle of the night feed. Tonight she is having it as her last feed before bed. The problem is the last few nights she has been refusing it and screaming and won't take it, or takes a bit and then won't take any more. I always end up stepping in and b/feeding her instead.

Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening? We have made sure the milk is warm enough, have tried giving it at different times without me being in the room etc but she is really fighting against taking it.

It doesn't matter in some ways as I am planning on b/feeding her for some time yet and so far I have never left her with anyone so it's not been a problem but I am worried that if I do ever need to go out without her she won't eat!!!

Caitlyn wouldn't take her bottle topups when her teeth started coming through x

i cant really help hun jack has never taken a bottle. he just wont take the teat x

My son has stopped to take bottle 1 week ago, although before it wasn't a problem. It was found out when I left him with by mum. He took it eventually after 10 minutes of scream. I couldn't pay such high price for several hours out.
As far as i know it could happened cause babies suck teat and bottle in different ways.
ps by the way - he never took dummy too...although I tried different

:hissy:No advice sorry as my Poppy won't take a bottle full stop.

I had this happen too. Have you tried changing the teat size? That was my problem. I also tried a few different bottles to see which ones she liked most.

No I haven't but I thought about that tonight. She has the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles which are meant to be the most like a nipple but I didn't realise you could get different teats for them. WIll take a look in Mothercare this week. Thanks.

I would have a trial with a few different bottles and teats to see what she prefers, Dr Browns are supposedly good for breastfed babies..??
Good luck x

my daughter wont take milk from a bottle either... we have dr brown bottles i dont get it...

Maybe some babies just love their boobie juice from mummy and only mummy!! Maybe its like us drinking a warm cuppa from a can!!
x

I give a BM top up at night to Heebs and she generally takes it fine but sometimes (like tonight) she gets part way through then refuses it but will go straight on the boob. :dohh:

I'm BF and my LO didn't take to the every so often bottle all the time - sometimes she did sometimes she didn't. We found that I needed to be completely out of sight and hearing at one point. However, it's probably going to be trial and error. :)

Is there a reason she needs to? My son is 15mo, still breastfed, and has never had a single bottle. He did start a sippy around 6mo but wouldn't take breastmilk in it, only water. He now drinks rice milk in it. But unless there is a reason she needs to do it I wouldn't even bother with it. If you don't plan on leaving her anytime soon, probably by the time you do she would be on solids so it wouldn't be as big of a deal skipping a feeding while you were outor something?

No there's no reason really other than I worry if I were ill or something and had no choice but to bottle feed, but I guess then I could try a sippy cup. It's just frustrating as I followed my h/v advice to giver her a bottle from 4 weeks and I don't understand why now my LO is refusing it after having it for so long.

It's nice for my husband to give her the feed too and I have noticed that she is sleeping less at night now since refusing it (waking every 3 hours) and I wonder if maybe the bottle feed (plus a top up from me) was helping her sleep for longer???

I will try differnt teats/bottles and see if that helps, but maybe I should just resign myself to the fact that she's done with the bottle! :dohh:

Thanks girls xx

She could also be waking more due to a growth spurt and just needing those extra feedings
