I have dyed my hair three times in this pregnancy, once today at 33 weeks, once at 12 weeks but the one I am really worried about is when I didn't even know I was pregnant- I was about 4 weeks.
I didn't even realise until today that some people thought it was a risk and I've had an all over colour put in three times :( do you think ive done any damage?

I think you should be okay. As I understand it, it's more of a worry in 1st Tri and it's more because hair tends to react differently during pregnancy. The worse thing I have read is some people have hair loss or the results are the opposite of what was wanted.

Don't panic...If you have managed to get your hair done and it took...Congrats!

Now stop worrying and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy BIG :hugs:

You'd need to be exposed to the chemical compounds in hair dye in extremely high doses for them to have an effect on your baby. Also, the quantities of the chemicals would need be far greater than the amount you’d use to colour your hair every month or two.

So, colouring your hair up to three to four times during pregnancy is probably safe. Plus, if you apply the dyes safely your body shouldn’t absorb many of the chemicals.

If you colour your own hair, follow the instructions carefully and apply the product for the minimum length of time stated. Also wear gloves and work in a well-ventilated room to reduce your exposure to the chemicals in the product.

You may want to highlight, paint, or frost your hair instead of dyeing it. You absorb hair colouring agents through the skin on your scalp, not through your hair shafts. So having highlights or streaks put straight onto your hair means you have less contact with chemicals.

Vegetable dyes may be a good alternative while you're pregnant. Check the packets, though. Many vegetable dyes contain some of the same chemical compounds that are used in man-made dyes. A vegetable dye that's very safe for you to use is pure henna. Henna is a semi-permanent dye that comes in a number of shades.

i very much doubt it- ive dyed my hair whilst pregnant too. my midwife said it is generally down to personal preference whether you decide to do it or not as research is very minimal and the findings dont really suggest that it is harmful to an unborn child. she just told me to do it in a well ventilated room so that i didnt inhale too many fumes. :) xxxx

You will be ok hun, Im used to do alot of hair dressing and you would need to be exposed for long periods of time.

Dont panic xxx

It is safe to dye your hair you just have to be a bit careful when going blonde with the peroxide and think it is more in case your hair goes green. Try not to worry hun, I have dyed my hair twice during the pregnancy and found that it just did not take as good hun

My hairdresser said it wouldn't have been a problem although I chose not to!

Dont worry at all, 3 times is nothing. Ive had mine done 3 times, although it was in foils and not all over. As other ladies have said it would have had to have been very frequent over and over again to have done any damage. My hairdresser even said its not a problem.
All is fine im sure, dont stress about it in the slightest xx
