Hey all

I'm a little worried as i just eaten a subway meal. I had the Italian B.M.T which included Ham, Pepperoni and Salami. I'm now a little worried as just been told i shouldn't eat deli meats and i could now get Listeria.

I am now worrying like a mad women and googled all sorts of bad things - i know, naughty me! On the up side, i did have it toasted. Do you think that would be enough to kill off the bacteria?

Any info would be appreciated :)

I eat Subway and I always thought to get it toasted would be better. I ate subway with my first preg and did fine.

I am a mega listeria phobe and i empathise with you :-( I don't know the answer to whether having it toasted would've helped but i do know that listeria is very very rare and even if you do get it doesn't mean it will necessarily hurt the baby. I'd try to relax and if it worries you stay away in the future. My sister however is addicted to subway and eats it every other day and her pregnancy is going well :-)

I eat subway all the time. With both my last and this pregnancy. I don't worry about all that stuff... :)

I love eating at subway too! just need to be careful.. there's one subway here i refuse to eat because they don't take off their glove when they hand the cash to the customer.. that is quite sick fro them.. after they are done with the subway, they should take off their gloves to accept and give change back!

I just had a subway too..mmmm. Should be okay as long as you had it toasted or the meat warm. I hate them toasted I always just get the chicken and bacon warmed up!

my midwife told me because we're in the UK the standard rule's don't apply to us . . . it's something to do with American/ continental deli meat's we shouldn't be having, try not to worry sweet, you're not in the first tri anymore so it doesn't pose the same threat as it originally did :)

I didn't know we can't have deli meat...I have subway alllll the time!

That's strange. Born and raised in America... Fourth pregnancy and never even heard of not eating deli meats until BnB. I would think our doctors would tell us this???

I eat subway all the time, love it! I just got to the new clean looking ones xx

It's one of the ridiculous things people worry about, honestly, eat anywhere you like as long as you are clean. The listeria risk is pretty much non-existent.

Listeria would make everyone who ate that meat sick and I have never even heard of lysteria in the US. I love Subway!!! Thanks God I dont have to cut it out. :)

I wasn't meaning to be insulting! I'm just going on what my midwife told me . . .

No it's ok. I think it's quite funny actually. Imagine if I said my doctor told me that it I eat a certain food from the UK I could hurt my baby and it's something you have never even heard of. Do you get what I am saying?? I actually hear SOOO many people on BnB (not from US) that talk about foods not to eat. Our doctors don't tell us these things in the US. We don't have breakouts of bad food. Once in a many years maybe a case of salmonella but that's been maybe 2 or 3 in my whole 30 years. So to hear your midwife say food from the US could hurt your baby just made me giggle.

ha I know it is ridiculous really, I mean you would understand it if they said don't eat things from the slums of India or something!

I think you're fine.
I had a turkey sandwhich a few months ago
before I knew I shouldn't eat lunch meat.
And my baby is doing just fine!!

Thanks for all the replies ladies, you have reassured me that everything will be ok. I think after suffering a miscarriage it just made me panic even more.

From now on i shall just enjoy food but be careful and clean at the same time :)

xx

I'm in the US and my Dr. did tell me to avoid deli meats. I still eat at Subway occasionally though and have yet to suffer any ill effects.

Hmmm. New to me. Fourth pregnancy and never heard of it until BnB. I also am seen by a team of maternal fetal medicine specialist. Who knows.
