I've had a head cold since Wednesday and I've been pretty stuffed up. We also have had fleas really bad lately so we have been deep cleaning today and we decided to use diatomaceous earth (food grade) on the carpets to see if that will help the flea issue. I probably totally over worked myself today trying to get everything clean. :/ Anyway I went to blow my nose and my nose started bleeding. This wasn't alarming as I have nose bleeds every so often all my life. Well it was GUSHING out my nose and my mouth and I was soaking through tissue within 2 seconds. I was crying and gagging it so horrible. I made OH call my mom as it wasn't letting up even a little bit. She is worried the diatomaceous earth that caused it, but OH thinks it's from my cold and blowing my nose so much. It went on for over 25 minutes. And I was cramping the whole time which scared me.
Now it's stopped and I have a headache, I am a tiny bit worried that I lost a lot of blood so I called the on call OB. He didn't seem to want to hear a word I had to say, acted like it was nothing and said "bye" and hung up on me. It was SO RUDE. I wanted to cry. Ugh
Anyone have such a horrible bloody nose or experience with food grade diatomaceous earth? (I wore a bandana over my face whole applying it to all over the carpet).

I have been getting HORRID bloody noses on and off my entire pregnancy. Like my last one for example lasted 20 min and soaked through two wash rags and a TON of paper towels. My bathroom was COVERED in blood. It kept coming out my nose and mouth uncontrollably. I got them really early on in my first trimester and then again I started getting them pretty bad in the late second tri and early third.

When I get them I just try to take it easy and eat lots of good foods to help me feel better. I always feel so off after. I brought them up to my doctor when I first started getting them, apparently its totally normal.

Omg that was exactly what just happened to me it, it was so horrid! I felt like there was blood everywhere, it was like a nightmare!! I'm glad to hear it is normal from someone who actually listened to me lol. Thank you. I think it was a mix of my cold, allergies, the DE drying out the air, and blowing my nose too much. Also I took clariton which might have dried my nose out more. I just feel like I lost half my blood lol not really im exaggerating but close enough lol and my nose feels like it's full of blood now up to my forehead and I have a headache ughhh

Be careful too my big bloody noses are usually followed by some smaller ones in the next few days. They're nothing compared to the big ones tho, they generally last MAYBE 5 min and they're super light in comparison.

Whenever I get them I take pictures lol, I'm weird like that tho. I send them to hubby to freak him out lol! My bathroom usually looks like a murder scene after lol.

Yeah my mom said I can't blow my nose for at least a few hours and I'm miserable! Im sooo stuffed up! But I know if I blow my nose it might just start again.
LOL sounds like you take it better than I do... I was acting like it was the end of the world! But seriously I did not think it was going to stop x_X and I do not like blood... Especially coming out of my mouth... X_x

I've had 3 or 4 nosebleeds since getting pregnant, and prior to that I think my last one was in elementary school! I don't think its too unusual. I figured mine were excessively bloody due to my Lovenox and baby Aspirin for a blood clotting condition, but now I'm wondering if most people experience heavier nosebleeds in pregnancy?

A week ago I was on a trip for work...I totally overworked, and had a bloody nose (think CSI public bathroom..) and some cramps...took almost 30 min for it to stop and horrible head aches after... It just cleared on its own.... Now my gums are bleeding... Both (and the fab hemorrhoids I had) are all hormone induced...I notice that all discomforts get worst for me when I over work, don't drink/eat enough and in my usual hrs, if I don't sleep enough, or if it it get too hot (basically, anything can push me from being comfortable to having annoying aches and grievances)..
Hope you feel better now!

Nosebleeds during pregnancy are totally normal, don't worry. I'm prone to nosebleeds to begin with, but I just get them more frequently with pregnancy.

Usually they last about 20min without doing much to stop them other then holding tissues to my nose, but I have had a bunch last 45min, even while putting pressure on it. They say when you get them, to pinch your nostrils closed right where the cartilage in your nose ends. Do that for 10min, do not release within that time. I get really impatient about it myself, but the times I did it for the full 10min, they stop immediately. You can also put ice on it to stop them.

I actually just had one around 11pm tonight. Mostly the blood came out of my mouth, choked me. I nearly threw up. I woke up with blood in my mouth as well so I must have had one while sleeping.

I was getting them on average 3x a week, but we bought a humidifier about a month ago so they have cut back to 1-2x a week. Just before we got the humidifier, I had blown my nose and got one of those 45min gushers. My bathroom looked like a murder scene, too. I haven't blown my nose since :haha:

Omg it's horrible. I've known nose bleeds are more common and normal in pregnancy but I did not think that meant gushing and pouring blood out of your face*holes! I think I've had one other nose bleed that bad in my life and a million nose bleeds that end within 5-10 minutes and I can just put tissue up my nose. That's what I imagine when I think nose bleed...not loosing all my blood, throwing up and dieing lol (that's what I thought was going to happen during the bleed yesterday :haha:)

Ahahaha you sound like how I used to be! Now, when they happen, I growl and get so annoyed. I'm like "Omg AGAIN? Now?? Why NOW?! I don't have time for this!"

Last week I got one during dtd with BF. I got blood all over my hand, bed sheets/blanket. Then I got another bad one the next ay during my shower - it was a literal blood bath! Bah!

On a side note, we used to use diatomaceous earth for the dogs and their fleas, but we used borax on the carpeting.

Eris did you feel the need to that with your ob/midwife? I wanted to, and I did some research online which said it is okay.. I still wanted to okay it with my OB nurse but I was worried the nurse wouldn't know what the heck I was talking about. Now im kinda paranoid. We sprinkled it allll over the carpets.

Oh and did it help get rid of the fleas? This was our first time using it and today there were still fleas everywhere but OH says they are acting slow and weird

I know this is an old post but I was wondering how long did your symptoms last? It's been 3 days now and today when I blew my nose I saw a bit of blood. I've had difficulty breathing feels like bad allergies. Whent to urgent care yesterday and they said my lungs are fine. How long did your symptoms last? How did you clean the diatomaceous?
