...had the bathroom and toilet facilities downstairs and none upstairs?

We have been looking at this house we really like the look of, the garden is mahoooooooosive, double the size of ours now, it has lovely fur trees in the front and back garden, its lovely.

Basically the things that attracted us to even look at it, was the extra garage it has right at the bottom of the garden, my husband wants to use it for his mechanic work on the weekends instead of renting elsewhere thats quite a distance from our current house.

Anyway, thats all irrelevant right now, but the thing that i dont like and am not really keen on is that the bathroom and toilet is downstairs and none upstairs at all, the only upside to no toilet/bathroom upstairs is that the bedrooms are alot bigger.

Would that bother you much?

Does anyone have the same set up, if so how is it for you?

Thanks.

I wouldn't personally. My reason is incase the kids need to loo in the middle of the night. I wouldn't like them wandering downstairs in the dark.

Would there be a possibility of taking a small amount from one of the bedroom & making it into a toilet room (no shower/bath) but keep the main the bathroom downstairs.

It wouldn't bother me having the bath etc downstairs just the loo.

Our bathroom is down stair. but as it at the front of the house it not that bad (wouldnt like if say u had to walk through other rooms to get to it)

so far it not been a prob, was bit annoying when i was heavily preg. we do have enough room up stairs to put in en suite which we are considering.

Bit this is only our first house to get us on the ladder, may have felt differently if it was a long term house.

Yeh, if it was at the front of the house, it would be easier to swallow, but you have to walk thru the living room and kitchen to get to it

My husbands up for moving again and it doesnt bother him (garden and garage are his priority ).

Im not so keen, plus we only moved here 7 months ago, we still arent settled in from the first move.

I think we need a second look.

We have a bathroom just downstairs. I would probably prefer it upstairs. It's really a nuisance! I didn't think it would be too bad when we moved but next time we move I wouldn't go for that x

My parents have the bathroom downstaires and you have to walk through the livingroom.
I lived there for so many years it seems rather normal to me so that layout wouldnt bother me.
TBH iv never understood the fascination with having a bathroom upstaires.
OH gran has a bathroom upstaires and to me it seems odd because it feels like upstaires should be a private area of the house and not for guests so it feels weird going up to where their bedrooms are to use it, id always be paranoid a guest was noising through my bedroom door.

It would depend on how much I liked the house. I would preferably want the bathroom upstairs but if that wasn't possible and I loved the house then I wouldn't let it put me off if everything else was fine :)

Is the upstairs just all bedrooms that you need- no spare bedroom/study or living area?

If so- couldn't you turn one of the spare rooms into a bathroom and then the bathroom that is downstairs into the spare room?

It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if the house was otherwise great and there were no houses you liked just as much.

When you think about it, you mostly use the toilet during the day anyway so it makes sense to have at least a loo downstairs. It's a real pain taking my toddler up and down stairs all day sometimes, but she never wakes in the night for a wee anymore. If she did, she's only 3 so I would just ask her to use the potty. Once she's too old to use a potty, she'll be old enough to go downstairs on her own at night.

If you're buying, you could maybe look at putting a little shower room upstairs at some point, depending on the layout, but it wouldn't be a necessity for me. Our bathroom (upstairs) is far from ideal but you spend so little time in there compared to other rooms that if there is any compromise, I'd rather it was in the bathroom than another room.

Yeah I think we would consider it. My in-laws there bathroom was downstairs with nothing upstairs and it didn't make any difference to me when i stayed there. It was quite cool really as they had there bathroom kitted out a gorgeous jacuzzi bath mood lights built in stereo system etc.. FIL was saying how it isn't very wise to have a jacuzzi bath or the type they have in an upstairs bathroom due to something or rather.

It wouldn't really bother especially if everything else about the house is great
I would just put a potty in the kids rooms while still young

I wouldnt like it personally, is there no way of putting one upstairs

We lived in a rented place with the bathroom downstairs..it was not ideal regarding trips to the loo in the night but we got used to it.

I prefer my bathroom and toilet downstairs. At first I wasn't convinced about it when we moved but I've grown to love it. Pro's I can think of off the top of my head :

1) I can bath with the girls in bed and not have to worry about the running taps waking them.

2) I can use it without having to worry about leaving the girls for longer than I would do if I was going upstairs and still be able to listen to what they are up to.

It is a pain in the ass to go downstairs in the night to pee but you get used to it!

I grew up with our bathroom downstairs at the other side of the house, it never bothered me really... I do prefer my en-suite now though haha x

We live in an old cottage with a bathroom downstairs. It doesn't bother me at all, though I'm thinking of selling and think it might put potential buyers off.

The house we rented before we bought our house now had the bathroom downstairs. I hated it. It was attached to the kitchen so could always hear people tinkling when I was cooking dinner lol! Also when I was pregnant and peeing every other minute in the night it was a nightmare! Other than that it's great during the day. Now I wouldn't do it because of Isabelle during the night when the time comes but luckily we have a downstairs toilet. Each to their own I suppose. x
