Would you consider a house that...

I wouldn't automatically rule it out, our house has the lounge on the middle floor and I was initially put off because its not what I'm used to, but after a week it seems normal. If the house is fab otherwise I'd definitely have another look :)

When we lived at my parents' house, we had to go upstairs to use the bathroom. Hated it.

I would go for it if everything else is what you would like. My sister lived in a house with the bathroom right at the back of the house and you had to walk through the lounge and kitchen to get to it. When they moved in they had two small children. One wasn't potty trained at all. They had no problems at all with it. The going downstairs isn't really an issue - a light can be put on. And if your child can't make it too the bathroom in time then they could have a potty in their room until they are able to hold it long enough to get downstairs etc.

Our house set up is: bedrooms downstairs lounge, kitchen & bathroom upstairs(!)
So, upside down, but similar to what you are looking at. We actually prefer the bathroom on the same level as the lounge & kitchen
x

It wouldn't put me off at all, in fact I would probably take the view that it would probably put a lot of other people off so maybe I could get more house for my money because of the effect on demand.

We use to live in a house like that, and I hated it. I wouldnt move into one again now as Kaysie Blossom goes to the toilet in a sleepy state a couple of times a week and so she could end up really hurt going down the stairs like that. She would freak if I suggested a potty.

I don't think it would put me off. My best friend as a child/teen had their bathroom downstairs and I stayed at her house a lot. It didn't really bother me that much to be honest.

only thing I really dont like is if we have visitors, when I've showered I hate having to walk to the stairs in my dressing gown.

The only thing that bothers me about downstairs bathrooms is all the ones I've known are right next to the kitchen and it doesn't feel very hygienic for some reason!

Mine is downstairs and it has never caused us any problems. We do have a loo upstairs but it never gets used so is more of a storage cupboard.
Kids rarely wake in the night for the toilet but I take the potty up just in case Lana does to save dragging her downstairs I will just put her on spotty and then back to bed.

I've always had bathrooms on both floors, so I wouldn't unless I really liked the house.

In Wales it's very common , I grew up with it found it fine

I always thought it would bother me. I also said i could never live in a house without stairs!

Now i live in a tiny apartment and i love it! Mostly because if i need to use the bathroom while DH is at work and im home with DD, i can keep track of her without having to drag her all the way up stairs and it's so much easier to clean too because its right there off my kitchen/living room so it really isnt a chore to go upstairs and keep DD penned in while i do it. She can play with her toys in the living room while i do my cleaning and i can see or at least hear what she's doing. It has made my life easier and i never thought it would.

The location of a bathroom (unless it was outside!) wouldnt be an issue to me any more. I have lived in a house with the bathroom downstairs and ones with the bathroom upstairs and an apartment where i can see every room at once from a central location. I think i want my next house to be a bungalow! :haha: It would not be a deal breaker for me.

Definitely a deal breaker for me, but from reading through all the posts, I think the housing here is WAY different than there, as here it's pretty unusual not to have a bathroom on each floor, as well as an ensuite in the master bedroom. I think as the other ladies have mentioned, that proximity is key...is it close to the kitchen that it would make you feel uncomfortable when eating/cooking; is it easy to access at night?

This is true- ensuites to Master bedrooms are becoming a lot more common now in new builds but I have never lived in a house with an ensuite- however I have stayed at an aunts in Flordia where two of the rooms have ensuites and have stayed with a friend in NY who had an ensuite to her room- and being the saddo I am I watch a lot of youtube videos and lots of people in the USA and Canada seem to have ensuites.

I feel a bit spoiled but I can't imagine NOT having an ensuite:blush: All of the homes I've lived in, either as a child or an adult have had one. The only exceptions were university housing and DH's and my first apartment, but it was only 600sq feet!

It would bother me because I usually have to go to the toilet in the night, my student house had a bathroom downstairs and I hated going down to use it. I also hate bathrooms that are close to kitchens, I don't know why but I just don't think they should be close lol. So it would be a deal breaker for me, unless there was a way to put a toilet upstairs, I could probably live without bath etc upstairs but it would be a nuisance x

We decided against it. Thanks for the replies tho guys.
