Today on the bus there was me adn another buggy so was talking to the other mum as her baby was the same age as Emma. She was asking about if I breast fed and I told her that I do both - BF last thing at night and in the morning then she has formula during the day. And she said how she had been told by her HV that you shouldnt do that.
Now my HV said that it was ok, and especially for the reasons I had - in that she was eating almost non stop all day and I was i pain.
This mum said that her LO was eating almost every hour and that as she had a 6yr old son she had no time to do anything and was getting exhausted and fed up.
So I said to her that she should maybe really think about 50/50 feeding as I have found that I am less stressed, in less pain (as it was painful for me to feed her) and actually have time to do things like the washing etc as Emma will now sleep for 3-4 hours and that there is no way I could have provided the amount of milk she is taking (she can take over 300ml in a feed!)
This mum told me the lenght and weight of her baby and it was the same length as Emma, but it was 3lbs lighter - and to be honest it did look a lot skinnier than Emma - but even at nearly 14lbs Emma is not fat at all.
My sis said that I was bad to suggest to this lady she try 50/50 feeding. But why? I never said she HAD to do it. I just said that I was in a similar situation (minus the 6yr old ) and that it worked for me and that I had a ver yhappy and healthy baby and that my HV had said that it was perfectly fine.
