Wrong Place to Post? about D&C Updated note

I dont know whether or not to post this here, but am hoping you may have some advice.

I dont know if any of you have read my previous threads in first trimester? (page 11 on 19/01/09)

I had to end my pregnancy on 2nd Jan, so not the best start to the new year.
Of course OH and I are still mourning for our little girl, but am also curious about the below...



Ok, its been 2 weeks and 3 days since i had the awful D&E
Have had sexy time, and had light watery bleeding (Sorry if TMI) spoke to midwife she said its where the little fishes lol and the cervix is contracting, like it would in labor which is causing the odd bleed.

So, we started with the 'withdrawl' meathod...
was ok.. then i took a cheapo pregnancy test Friday.. was negative, so had sexy time without the withdrawl incase i was/ am ovulating, but to make sure yesterday i bought a first responce... still coming up that i am pregnant, but the 2nd line is like how it was when i found out i was about 4-5 weeks pregnant.

How long until it will be negative or until my levels will be 0?
i so want to start trying again

any advice would be appriciated

erm some ppl are diff.. i m/c at 10 weeks * baby was 7 weeks and i was still showing positive untill 2 weeks after my m/c so it was n my body 5 weeks.. but my body has a problem letting go..

can take anything up to a month to come out i think

It can be a bit individual but generally your numbers drop much faster with a d&c than with a natural mc. I have usually gotten a negative hpt about a week after so a positive hpt today makes me go hmm....


The only three options i can think of that answers that is a) there's some retained product (but then you should have other symptoms as well...) b) your numbers are dropping slowly or c) you're pregnant again...

Ask your doctor and see what he says.

Hey Cal, first off sorry for our loss. My first mc (natural) at six weeks my numbers dropped so slowly, I rem the highest being only at 299, but was testing positive two weeks later still!
Im hoping now that i had a d&c for a b/o at twelve weeks it would drop faster... well i can hope! never asked for my numbers this time round though.

I think it is different from person to person. Hang in there! and good luck with the ttc.

Sorry to hear about your loss!

I had a natural MC this time and my numbers have dropped dramatically, last wednesday they were at 39 opposed to 700ish on the pervious Sunday. (which the MW says it's dropped really quick). She also mentioned the bleeding should stop soon if my numbers are low. So I'm not sure if that's anything to go by.

It differs with different people. I think some get a negative really fast, under a week. I didn't test til after 2 weeks. But then got my negative. How confusing. What does the doc say?

I tested again last night, still a faint positive... I will test again in a weeks time, and hopefully it will be negative by then...

And no more trying to get pregnant until i get a negative result, otherwise i wont know if i have a new pregnancy, or my little Angels hcg levels are still in me... confusing!


Oh, but i was thinking...
If i test next week and it is still positive, i will wait for 1 more further week... fingers crossed will be negative...
but if it is positive, do you think i shoulde wait until end of feb and test again?
Or just go straight to the docs?

Hi hun something similar happened to me, i had a scan at 11 weeks to find out my lo had died at 6weeks, they left me 2 weeks to see if it would m/c naturally which i did , i bled for 3 weeks and thought that was it 4 weeks later as i had still not had an af and a hpt came up + got all excited,had an early scan and it turned out to be retained product , luckily i had no infection and had an erpc the next week after that my hcg fell quite fast and i got a neg hpt 2weeks after.
so hun i would not leave it too long before checking as you dont want to get an infection if it is from your previous pg.

Iv just spoke to doctors, am going in for scan tomorrow at 10.45, so wish me luck that there is no retained product from my Angel.

IF there was the slightest chance i was pregnant, surely it wouldnt show up, or they wouldnt see it this early on? It was 3 weeks since termination tomorrow, and 2 weeks since we have been trying again... well not properly trying until this week, but even so, surely they couldnt detect a new pregnancy, nor could i fall again so quickly?

I hope i dont have to go through another d&c once was enough- forever

Midwife just called and advised to not come in tomorrow, but test again next Wed and if still positive, then to go in for scan and blood test...

I think it took me about 2 weeks to start showing a negative on a HPT. But I think even then, I could see a faint line. At 3 weeks after my ERPC, I was showing BFNs so now I'm waiting for my next BFP.

Well good luck hun, as you say they probably would not be able to see a new pg on a scan yet but a week might make the difference.I really hope its good news for you , if you start to feel poorly though or get worried at all then see your dr.let us know how you get on, and pm me any time.

I hope the test doesnt show up positive next wed, as that will be nearly 4 weeks since i had to let my angel go

so i wonder if it is, what could be causing it.
As soon as i find out, il will update xxx

Sorry for your loss. I think that is why I'm not going to try until I defo get a bfn as couldn't deal with the hope of it being a real bfp when it wasn't. Hope you find out what is happening soon.

Hi Cal,

As you know I also had the unfortunate experience of having a a D&C at 14w1d.
I wasn't told what my HCG count was at that point but when I was still bleeding 4 weeks post op I had to go for a ERPC and my new doctor said that he did a blood test and my HCG count 4 weeks post first op was still 124,000.

It took two weeks post second op to get my HCG down to 8.

There is a chance you could be pregnant again but it would be best if you can rule out remained products. If you can ask your doctor to do an internal exam he/she can rule this out for you and you can know if you must start celebrating.
