ELLEN HOPKINS. 
May be a different style than you may read, but she is by far the best author of all time, and I read a lot. You feel the characters as if you've known them forever. You can feel everything they feel. Some of her books have multiple stories with different characters that start completely different, but they all come together. Gosh, she's just an amazing author! The books don't take very long to get through, even though they're wide, because she writes in poem form. Each page is in a different design. It's hard to explain, but everything about her books is unique and perfect.
