This is going to be very detailed and long as I do not even know how to begin to process what happened to me yesterday. This is my first pregnancy and I'm so confused. I am really hoping SOMEONE has been through SOMETHING similar to my situation and might help me comprehend what the Hell just happened. I am still kind of lost in the dark and not able to see a doctor until Monday.

I will begin with yesterday at noon. I was germinating some morning glory's when all of a sudden I was gushing what I thought was urine. It was just streaming and I thought "am I peeing myself?!" When I looked down I was saturated in my own blood. Mind you, I haven't had a single bleed this pregnancy and I am about to be in my second trimester in less than a week. I didn't feel any pain, but had a terrible feeling as the bleeding continued. I took a shower and immediately called my OB/GYN, who was conveniently not in the office, and wouldn't be until Monday. The receptionist urged me to go the hospital, so I called my husband and we rushed to the nearest hospital (30 miles south of us). The bleeding came and went but the pain worsened as we sat in the ER for 3 hours without being seen by a doctor.

After 2 hours of being switched from room to room, I suddenly bled so hard that I saturated my jeans and left a pool of blood on the bed I had been waiting on. I was freaking out!! I got up and screamed that I needed to be seen, but went without treatment. I was hysterical!! My husband was also freaking out, we didn't know what to do since the doctor was busy with a patient with a broken finger. I urged my husband we leave and rush to the next hospital as I was losing a lot of blood and felt it was an absolute emergency. There wasn't another hospital in a close range. I called urgent care and they told me they would've sent me back to the ER. They told me to go back to the waiting room and demand I see a doctor, and for my husband and I to get loud. We drove back as directed.

At this point I was in absolute hysterics. I barged into the office and was demanding and screaming as I continued to heavily bleed. I was worried I needed a D&C (The urgent care told me I probably needed one, over the phone I might add). A nurse told me and my husband that because we left(only a 10 minute period has passed at this point) we needed to check back in and do the process of waiting all over again. They said once I left they deleted all of my records (IN 10 MINUTES) and could no longer help me.

I was in shock. The lady standing next to me asked me to kindly put my sweater over my jeans as I was bleeding all over the place. THE LACK OF HUMANITY!! I was so polite and patient up to the point where I was severely bleeding everywhere, just to be overlooked. I gave up hope. I went to the car and waited for my husband to just take me home so we could miscarry in peace. Since I couldn't get medical attention, and assumed I was in fact miscarrying, I just lost hope and went home. The pains had gotten worse and as soon as we got in the house, I undressed to shower when I literally birthed a piece of tissue about the size of a baseball. I FLIPPED OUT! I couldn't handle it. I thought for sure it was over and I had just birthed my little fetus right on the bathroom floor. I was in pain and in terror. We packed the specimen up and went North (about 30 miles) to a very small hospital, so we could confirm the miscarriage and so I could finally get a little peace of mind. I also wanted to make sure I was physically alright. We waited in that waiting room, after they took 5 viles of blood, my baby, and a catheter of urine, only to wait 3 hours without seeing a doctor. I was bleeding through a hospital maternity pad every hour, and was feeling so faint and tired after everything. The nurse told me the doctor was switching shifts and I probably wouldn't be seen anytime soon. She advised to me, because of all of the blood loss, to rush myself to the big memorial hospital AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY!!

Because she used the words severe blood loss, miscarriage, no doctor, we hauled ass to the ER in Bakersfield. We were there 20 minutes and saw a doctor immediately. A bunch of fucking rookies on the graveyard shift straight out of med school. Before even looking at me they had everything out and ready for a D&C and at this point, I didn't even care as I had given up hope. I explained everything to the doctor and he just said, "sounds like you miscarried, these things happen". Thank God my cervix was closed and the bleeding was mild by this point, 11 hours later. He confirmed the MC by what I told him and was about to send me on my way. My husband asked if he could see an US to confirm, and I just couldn't bear it. I looked the other way when I heard a HEARTBEAT, and there was my BABY!! I couldn't believe it. I was happy, but WTF DID I PASS EARLIER?! WHY SO MUCH BLOOD?! WHAT WAS GOING ON?! Of course, to the ER I was no longer an emergency as I was no longer bleeding and I was still pregnant. I was put on bed rest and sent on my way.

I've called 5 OB/GYN doctors this morning, and no one can squeeze me in. My doctor is MIA and the hospital with that specimen I left, will not test it as I left without being seen by a doctor. I am still bleeding lightly with mild pain. WHAT DID I PASS?! It literally looked like a fucking liver. I am so filled with emotions. I am grateful I am still pregnant and baby's heartbeat is normal. THRILLED! But I need some answers. Anyone have something similar to this?

Also, I am formally filing complaints with both hospitals that did not give me treatment. I cant believe the healthcare system is so fucked up in this state. I wish with every part of me we could be back East in my hometown delivering this baby. I am certain the state of California has the WORST healthcare I have ever endured.

On honey. You've had a terrible time :-(

I can totally relate to this-at 12+5 I went to the loo and gushed loads of blood. I too was labeled threatened miscarriage and told to come back the next day for a scan.
AnywY, like you to my surprise there was a baby alive!

I've got a blood clot in my womb that was bleeding called an sch. I've had two big bleeds now And they drenched clothes second time so I can understand how scary the blood loss was for you.

I'm thinking that's what you could have too. Maybe you passed the clot if so?
:hugs:

are they going to scan you? So a orry for the crap treatment-these jerks don't realise how distressing it is

What a horrible experience! Sorry you have had such a fright and glad that bubba looks like he is okay.

Medical professionals are so insensitive at times. I am not trying to justify their behavior but an explanation, I guess, would be that they are a little hardened through seeing these things so often and usually there is nothing they can do to stop what is happening at this relatively early stage in pregnancy.

I think you should follow up your complaint as medical professionals do need to be reminded that patients do not see these things every day and need to be treated with compassion.

I am going to try and see my OB on Monday, since no other doctor is available to see me until then anyway. Until then I am waiting it out and resting.

Is there any way that you can get a scan or a doppler to use before then as it night put your mind at ease.

I have read so many threads on here about women who have had crazy unexplained bleeding and bubba has been fine. I have a good feeling you'll be one of those ladies reassuring people that sometimes bleeds seem really frightening but turn out okay. x

Stay on bed rest and drink plenty of water. Don't let yourself get dehydrated as this can make bleeding worse. Water has really helped me.

I think it's crazy you can't see someone sooner. Not even a scan in ER? It's mental torture not knowing what's going on, I know but you heard a heart beat-so your baby is doing ok. Try to take comfort in that :hugs:

wow!!! what a sad, emotional, angry, happy experience!! WTH!! is wrong with people these days! omg sorry you had to go thru that but im sooooo glad you seen babys hb!! hope ur doing better

I know you ladies are not doctors but my husband and I are just trying to brainstorm.

After researching what might look similar to what I passed, I can say the most accurate is that of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Is it possible to have had another baby above my uterus causing this? I have no idea how to even search that.

Your talking about a heterotopic pregnancy, where one could have developed in the tube and one normally? It is possible, but not that common.
Have you had no previous scans? Any pain to the sides of your lower abdomen? I would have thought if it was this you would have been in agony, as it's pretty serious I think you may have kept bleeding. Have you mentioned this thought to your ob? They need to scan ASAP if it is this, but again, I don't think it is.

Hey, I'm so sorry you're going through this without any answers forthcoming. I've never heard of an ectopic that size which would pass on its own.i think smaller ones might pass...but as far as I can tell ectopics normally need manual or medical removal ...descriptions of ectopic are generally of extreme pain all the way through.

I can't tell you how many women I've heard say they passed clots during a threatened mc, sometimes I read they might be one of a twin but that's rather rare... Other times I think as yo yo said it could be clot/mass which needs to come out. The main thing is that if it's an sch an ultrasound will clarify if it needs to be kept an eye on, it's size and position etc. hope that you get some proper medical attention as soon as possible.

Didn't want to R&R I'm SO SORRY you went through that, I was so extremely angry at those doctors while reading this.

I always thought ectopics are painful and to get to 13 weeks a rupture would have been more pain?

I would lean towards it was a cyst or a twin-either empty sac or not formed nearly as much cause a baby at 13 weeks you would clearly be able to see within the sac.

So sad to hear how you were treated. Bleeding that much should have been a higher priority considering that blood loss is death and broken finger is not...

I just remembered that one of my husband's friend's wives had a similar experience at 14.5 weeks. It turned out to be a massive clot and she has been under the care of a specialist since.

I agree with the others that if it had been an ectopic, you probably would have been in major abdominal pain on one side rather than feeling a sudden gush of blood.

Thank you ladies. After raising hell at the hospital that is carrying the specimen I gave them, they are trying to release some info as to what that was! They need to get approval from some higher ups to make sure they aren't doing anything "illegal", but seems pretty promising. We will know within the hour exactly what that was that I passed, and if it was in fact a baby maybe they will see me idk. If it was a clot, then I am fine waiting until Monday. I am still bleeding with mild pain but not once would I consider the pain excruciating. Thank you ladies for the love and support.

Dear god...you poor woman...you've been through soo much! I am so so sorry that you received such ill treatment! I really hope you get answers soon. I'm also in limbo for unexplained pink spotting and although I feel baby movements I can't get an ultrasound until next week! Er wouldn't give me one. So scary. Keep us updated!

My OB has no emergency line otherwise I would have seen him hours ago. Possibly even yesterday if he didn't decide to take an early day. As far as doctors are concerned its been frustrating. I have had 3 scans so far and all have looked healthy and normal. I am RH negative, but received a shot for that lastnight. There haven't been any traces of twins but my hubby suggested maybe one was in the fallopian tube or something. Who knows. I finally got the hospital on the line and they are doing lab work on the specimen I brought them lastnight. Ill know more soon. Thanks Yo Yo for your support. Will keep ya posted.

Good luck. Will be keeping fingers crossed you get answers soon :flower :

Good luck! I hope they get to the bottom of it and that baby is doing well. x

With my first pregnancy I went in for my 12 week ultrasound at the hospital. They have you drink enough that your bladder is "uncomfortably full", and while I was in the waiting room I thought I peed myself. Got in the room to realize I was gushing blood. I went to the bathroom where I was gushing blood with huge clots but since I was there for the scan was able to confirm right away that the baby was ok. They told me to make an appt with my ob.

He diagnosed it as a subchrionic hemorrhage. Basically a vessel in your uterus opens and releases blood into your uterus which can either be reabsorbed, or in my case, burst and leave your body. Depending on where the clot is decides whether it will affect your baby. I bleed for 5 weeks and had weekly appts to track the size of the clot, they showed me right on the ultrasound the decrease each week.

My son was born completely healthy at full term. I hope your baby is healthy as well, good luck! I believe there is a group on this site for subchrionic hemorrhages, you might want to check it out.

I'm shocked you went through all that. I'm SO sorry!!

As Yo-yo and someone else mentioned, you may have a subchorionic hemorrhage (SCH)/bloodclot/hematoma (there are a few terms for the same thing). My SCH was discovered at 5 weeks and I had 4-5 big bleeds. Nothing quite like yours though.

I wish you the best of luck on Monday. I hope the doctor takes this seriously and gives you a reason for why you bled like you did. Ask about a subchorionic hemorrhage, and if you have one, ask where is it located in relation to the baby (below, above, to the side) and ask how big it is (see if they can give it to you in a measurement: millimeters or centimeters are most common). If you have one, come find Yo-yo and I on a support group for SCHs.

Remain on bed rest/pelvic rest. In case the hospital didn't give you specifics: no sex, no orgasms (sorry tmi), no exercise, no heavy lifting. Drink lots of water - it'll help with the cramps. Blood in the uterus is a massive irritant, and the cramps from the blood can be horrendous. They woke me from the dead of sleep and had me doubled over at times. When you feel cramps coming on, rest! Elevate your feet and drink water. :hugs:

Again, I'm so sorry you were treated like that. I must say I totally teared up when you said you heard the heartbeat.
