I'm now 15 wks preggers and I have a UTI. I got it about 1 1/2 wks sgo...went to doc and got MACROBID. I took it for 7 days but UTI didn't go away. So I went back to doc and they got another sample to get it cultured. I;m allergic to Penicillin so that's not an option for me. The doc said to go home and drink cranberry jusic and wait until they get the culture results back!!! WTF?! HELLO...I am SOOOO sick of dealing with this damn UTI.

Has anyone else had this problem? What happened? Which drugs did you take?Does anyone know the effects/problems of a prolonged UTI during pregnancy?

Worried:cry:

I'm sorry sweetie, I haven't had to deal with a UTI during this pregnancy yet (knock on wood). I do know that they will find a medication for you to take that will take care of the UTI and I'm sure you'll be fine! Just drink lots of water and lots of cranberry juice.

I've had two UTIs already this pregnancy. First time they did put me on penicillin, but the second time I didn't go in-- instead I drank plenty of fluids such as apple juice, water, and cranberry juice. It makes you have to use the washroom quite often, but cleans out the infection. Good luck with your UTI!

I haven't been in that situation but I hope that your UTI goes away soon. As the other girls said drink lots of cranberry juice!

Dont forget the water!! lol the more water you can process as well the faster it will flush everything out!!

:hugs:

I got a urinary tract infection at 14 weeks pregnant, I went to the doctor and they prescribed me Amoxycillin capsules, i had to take 3 a day for 7 days and drink lots of water and it cleared up. Maybe you should ask your doctor for this, my doctor said it was the medicine they prescribe for UTIs during pregnancy in the UK, because its safe to take. Hope it clears up soon, i know how painful it is xxx

same here, i had to take keflex which is safe during pregnancy as i am allergic to penicillin too!goodluck - itll clear up quickly when you start taking the tablets! xx

amoxycillin is part of the penicillin family so it'd be no good for someone who's allergic to it! I had cefalexin (sounds suspiciously like keflex!) first of all then amoxycillin and I still have naff stuff in my urine weeks later. Hope it clears up quickly and like everyone's said, the best thing is probably drinking lots of fluids. I couldn't keep my antibiotics down (even with antisickness tablets) so they didn't do much for me at all!
