16 week scan - what to look out for??

I've posted this in 2nd tri too! Basically I'm going for a scan today because I've been having some abdominal pains and have been offered an ultrasound. I'm not generally too worried about baby as was examined by a doctor last night, and have my own doppler too, so just wanted to seize the opportunity for an extra scan! And obviously to completely eradicate any chances of there being something wrong..

But I just thought, I'm 16+2 today...Surely they could tell the gender by now?? With it being the NHS I thought they might be a bit funny about it / not want to comment, so I wanna be able to just ask to see the potty shot and make my own judgment, if they don't wanna say it themselves!!

Anyone care to give me a few hints/tips as to how to tell / what I'm looking for? Thanks!
