Hi all,

Well, I've been in the TTC forum since Sept 2009 but figured it was time to face reality and head over here. Last September (after 20 months of trying) I had my right tube unblocked - Yay! My hubby was out of town alot over the next 4 months to follow (always when I was ovualting) so it's really been a few months since everything has been free and clear and we've been retrying. Well the clock is ticking and I had another birthday....so we have an appt with our fertility specialist for June 7. We're going to start IUI - I'm sure it won't be right away as everything seems to take time. Isn't it the pitts that there's really only a two day window? Trying to get HSG test and then waiting another cycle to get my tube unblocked took 4 months because it can only be done on a certain day and the hospitals "didn't have enough beds" to accomodate me. What I was wondering is, do they always put you on clomid before IUI? Whats the next step after your you've decided to go ahead with IUI? Thanks ladies. So nice to talk to people that understand.

Hi there,

Welcome to LTTC. I hope youre not over here for long xxx

Welcome to the LTTTC area - you'll probably feel better once you adjust to officially being a long-termer. You won't have to read those annoying BFP announcements after 1 cycle of trying!

I don't think they always prescribe clomid before IUI, although that's what my doctor has done. It depends what other issues you may have. I ovulate on my own, clear tubes and DH's sperm is fine, but still unexplained after 3+years.

Good luck.

It took me 2 years and 8 months to get pg my first time. If you are Oing on your own the Dr may be trying to use clomid to do controlled hyperstimulation and be able to get a few extra follicles/eggs to work with. Hopefully it won't take long.

Thanks ladies! Yes the BFP's started to get to me. I was the only one not seeing two lines. Oh well, I have faith it will happen soon. I ovulate on my own, DH's sperm isn't the absolute best but far from what they originally told us (the lab tech left it out for 3 hours before testing and when we went in for results the Dr told us he barely had ANY healthy sperm, all had poor motility and the count was low). For two months we believed our two options were IVF or sperm donor. Oooops. Big mistake they made. When he went in for second test (on site at Fertility Clinic) they were much happier with results, said we can keep trying and if we can't get pregnant on our own than we'll have to do IUI but not IVF. I guess I'll know more on June 7 - just anxious. Thanks for all the kind words.
