Hi there, I am new to this website and am really hoping someone could offer some advice please. My DD is 2 months old and formula fed. She was combine fed until about 2 weeks ago. She tends to graze rather than have a full feed, esp during the day. So she may have 60ml and then sleep and have another amount when she wakes but quite inconsistent. We have today tried extending time between feeds to see if she'll be more hungry but it hasn't worked and then also feel sorry for her having to wait. She is very happy and absolutely fine weight wise. I know this is 'baby led' which is good....I think??? But should I be worried about the fact some people seem to think this is odd and should be in a routine??? I think we were ok with it until you start allowing yourself to listen to others who seem to have their babies on routines by now. We have a bedtime routine that we do every night and she can wake two to three times a night. She seems to drink more during the night. Think I'm just looking for a little reassurance.......Thank you to anyone who replies xxxxx

My little man is 8 weeks old and pretty much does the same thing, for the last few weeks it has been a real effort to get him to have a full bottle and I have gone back to making 3oz bottles again. Sometimes he will take the whole bottle other times he won't. Last night he had 2 together (a whole 6oz!) I don't see how you can get a 2 month old baby into a proper routine. The advice you get these day is babies should be demand fed, which I have been told to do by the health visitor, the midwife and a hospital consultant (she said babies were very clever and would only take what they needed when they wanted which is what my son seems to do). We have a bedtime routine but the timing varies depending on when he wakes up. He can go anything from 1 hour to 5 hours at night sometimes taking the whole bottle. Do what feels right for you and your daughter, in a few weeks she will hopefully have a more regular feeding pattern which is what I'm hoping for. The most important thing is her weight is fine and what other people think doesnt matter xx

Honestly i wouldn't worry, the worst thing you can do is compare your baby to others, i did this so much with my first and it got me really stressed out! :hugs:

I switched finley to formula after bf for a week, and he often grazes too, which is a little inconvenient but i know it doesn't last forever and every "phase" passes eventually! He sometimes has 1oz and sometimes has 3oz, when he has 1oz he wants feeding a hour later, yet when he has 3oz he will go 2-4hours, he often grazes through the night which is what he did when he was bf, cluster feeding but on the bottle, sometimes having half an ounce every 30mins  As long as your baby is putting on weight fine and having wet/dirty nappies then don't worry, she is still very young and i don't think we were in a proper routine with my eldest DS until he was approx 5 months! xxx

Mine was all over the place too at that age, and now she is fairly regular. I fed completely on demand until about 3 months, and then I tried to space it out a bit and get on a schedule with her lead. If she was hungry I would feed her but I was trying to go every three hours from start to start. It actually helped a lot as I didn't wait for her to start screaming before I fed her (her hunger cues started with screaming) If she seemed full I would take a break for a bit and then offer a little more. At night she would feed more often and still does..I guess preparing for long sleep. Anyway, it doesn't sound any different than how mine was and now it's much more regulated, so it's possible she is just really little still!

This is very true, my favourite phrase when it comes to babies is "it's all a phase!"

I wouldn't worry hun, if he is happy being fed that way, then it's not a problem at all :)

Thank you all so much for making me feel better!! I've been finding it really difficult what with so much conflicting advice and having several people who seem to be constantly telling me how their babies feed every four hours and sleep through the night!! maybe I should just wear ear muffs!! ;) Been logging what she has and when; she's certainly inconsistent but always seems to get about 650ml a day overall and weight is bang on. Really reassuring to hear from you that I'm not doing it all wrong so thank you x x x x x
