Starting to get a bit panicky about names now. It's like I don't completely trust my judgment on choices and can't seem to find one or two names that I really love. Also OH has different ideas and keeps agreeing with my suggestions then deciding he actually doesn't like them. Here's my current shortlist, let me know what you think or if you have any other suggestions. I'm desperately seeking inspiration as I want to be able to announce the name to friends and family as soon as possible rather than a week after the birth!

Boys:
Arlo (it sounds cool and different, but may make
family members go 'what?!!'

Dylan (oh not keen, reckons it's too obvious)

Rory (name of my little sisters recent ex boyfriend
so not sure this is appropriate)

OH likes classic names like Albert, George and Ralph. I'm really not keen and prefer something more modern for a boy. OH also likes Oscar, which is a great name but happens to be the name of my mums dog, so not really going to work. I don't like surname names or anything too American sounding if that makes sense?

Girls:

Roma
Marnie
Niamh ( pretty but not 100% on this one, think it's because there's just one syllable)
Sadie
Matilda (prefer the nicknames mattie/Tilly to the full name so not sold on this one)

Middle name will be Joan, Sophie, or rosalyn depending on the first name choice.

Surname is Edwards so this rules out a few names that I like such as elodie and edie/Edith. Too much alliteration!

What do you think? Any other names you think might suit us based on my current list?

Does it get a lot easier once the baby is here and a name just clicks into place? I really hope so because I'm feeling completely stumped right now!

I like Rory but see why you would not want to use it. Dylan is nice as well!

Some ideas:

Max is both new and old.
Thomas wears well.
Also - Cory, Joshua or Aiden may suit.

Girls:
I like Sadie and Marnie. Matilda is on my short list for a girl!

Maybe:
Hannah
Millie
Lina
Annie
Nellie

HAHA, AMERICAN sounding?? I'm Canadian, but I live in the USA, and I had never thought of names here SOUNDING American. *Giggle* :haha:

Suggestions:

How about Peter, Raymond, Richard, William, Patrick that type of name? Gabriel is very popular here today. Perhaps Hayden or Noah?

For girls; Amelia, Emma, Audrey, Catherine, Sarah (Though I like my name better spelled without the H! :winkwink: ), Chloe, Rosemary

I'm trying to keep these names in relative theme to yours, hope they help!

Hehe. I thought that comment would come out sounding wrong. I guess I meant the surname type names that seem to be very popular in the US at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Its hard because a lot of them are lovely but are already names of family members, ie max, Amelia, Emma... And my name is Chloe.

You know, if I wasn't having HORRID pregnancy brain this morning I would have realized that Chloe was your name by your username. Sorry, I'm a lame duck today!

What about Elenore or Elanora? or Lillian? (Lillian is the top name in our list right now).

When I think British names I immediately lean towards the Arthurian lore names.

Arthur, Gwen, Merlin, Lance as opposed to Lancelot etc. Ygraine/Egraine has always been a favourite of mine as well.

Noah and Joshua are also lovely names but veeeery popular around here at the moment and OH won't entertain any names where LO may likely be one of 3 in a class with the same name. He's obsessed with this happening even though I've told him it's not like you can plan it!

Hmmm

Hi,

Arlo...I don't like it, i think it sounds like a dogs name, no offence.

Dylan...I think is cute but quite ordinary.

Rory...I love this but can understand why you wouldn't feel right using it.

Roma...I think its quite cute but can't imagine anyone actually being called it.

Marnie...Oh this is beautiful and sounds magical!. I think it goes nice with Joan or Rosalyn.

Niamh...I think is lovely. I think it goes nice with Sophie or Rosalyn.

Sadie...I can't decide if i like this or not, i have seen it pop up on BnB a few times lately. But i would say i'm leaning more towards liking it. I think it goes nice with Joan or Rosalyn.

Matilda...I don't like it.

Or...

Betsy
Bonnie
Flossie
Nellie

I like Rory for a boy. Did you thing about Alexander or something similar - I think a longer name would flow better with Edwards.

Out of your girls name, I think Matilda is great. It goes fantastically with your surname.

I love the name Rory.... but was swaying more towards it for a girl with the spelling Rhory.

I think Arlo is fab, I also like Arno too.

Boy suggestions
Caesar
Roman

Girl suggestions
Cassidy
Aroura

Hope you find somthing you fall in love with soon xx

Thanks everyone.

Marnie is really growing on me more and more since I first put it on the shortlist. Even though OH is not keen I'm
trying to persuade him. He tends to say no to names
straight away without giving it any thought then he decides
he likes the name later on. That's what happened with
Roma and Matilda.

Boys-wise, I don't think arlo is too 'out there' but I'm having trouble picturing my child with that name so think I will need to wait until I've met baby to decide whether he can carry off being an arlo. Rory and Dylan are the safer options but OH not keen on Dylan so looks like I might have to test the water with my sis and see how she feels about us naming the baby Rory. Feel a bit bad but it's not like they were married or anything, she's 18 and they were together for half a year, it's just bad timing because it's a recent break up.

Just wanted to add that I feel like I've been through every name list 3 times and left no named unturned. Really hoping the right name becomes a lot more clear once we meet the baby, would not like to be feeling this flummoxed when everyone starts asking 'so what's the name then?'. Starting to think that maybe I'm overthinking the matter and I need to step back, take a few days off from thinking about names and come back to it with fresh eyes. Easier said than done at this stage when who knows how many more days are left before he or she arrives!
