20 week scan showed hydrocephaly anyone else?

Hi all,

Had my 20 week scan this morning and have now been referred to feral medicine due to hydranencephaly, or excess water on the brain.

Has anyone else had this? What happened?

They were saying that they want me seen ASAP as that's best, but that they didn't want to say too much as the people I'll see in feral medicine are specialists and can tell me more, plus theyll essentially do another 20 week scan and check everything else again.

Everything else on my scan came back as normal and baby was measuring ok and moving around a lot.

I had to see a vbac consultant after who said that I'll be booked in today for 34 weeks to book in my planned section, but that it's likely feral medicine will montior me with more scans to check growth is ok and if not then they'll rejig the plans.

I'm trying not to worry and am hoping I'll be in with feral medicine next week, I've just got to wait for them to call me and tell me when they want me in.

Feel like I'm in limbo and don't know what to expect with baby. The happy start to my day has just gone and is replaced with worry.

Do you mean hydrocephaly or hydranencephaly??? Both are very different with hydrocephaly being excess water on the brain, the other hydranencephaly, is that baby has no brain, only cerebral spinal fluid where the brain should be.... I truly hope it's not the later ... if it is indeed hydrocephaly, my nephew was born with it.. he has many other issues but he is 8 now and does pretty well, he does have seizures but I'm not sure if it is from that?!
I hope you are ok and your baby is ok and you get good news from the dr!!!

Oh gosh, the first one! Think it was a typo. Yes excess water on the brain, they said baby has 15% when the expected is 10%.

Thank you for your reply. I just don't know what to expect or what to think right now and just waiting for a phone call from the hospital is going to be draining x

I'm sorry, it's so tough when we find something out but don't have full answers .. I hope you get all the answers you need and that your lo is just fine... fx'd for you hun!!!!!
