21 day Progesterone test needed with extremely short cycles

Hi ladies,

This is my first time posting after coming to this site for lots of support and answers over the last 18 months.

I am currently being referred to a fertility specialist as we have been ttc for 18 months with no success and I have many symptoms leaning towards a hormone imbalance and possibly pcos. My gp has asked I get a 21 day progesterone test before I see the specialist but I am stressing about when to get the test done because I have incredibly short cycles and I'm not 100% sure when I ovulate.

It's my understanding that the 21st day is used when you have a regular 28 days cycle, but my last 3 cycles have been 21 days, 17 days and 22 days. When do you think I should arrange the test for? Should it be 7dpo? I have a cbfm but I have had to reset it as i have not been able to use it for the last few months. With resetting (back to as if I first bought it) I know there's a high chance it could miss my surge this month (sometimes it misses it the first time you use it) so I'm stressing i could miss ovulation and not know when to get my progesterone test? Af showed her ugly face last night so I'm currently cycle day 1.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Yes, test on 7dpo. Don't let the doctor talk you out of it just because they will have heard of the "21-day progesterone test"; show them your charts and make sure they're testing on 7dpo.

Re. the cbfm, I would reset it so you can use it next month and just use another form of OPK this month. Internet cheapie strips always work really well for me, but you can go with the more expensive digital ones if you really want to be sure. Or even just temping would work since you're not pinpointing O, just trying for 7dpo. I wouldn't stress too much about not having the machine available
