I would ditch the purees if she doesn't want to be spoon fed. Ruby won't be spoon fed either so we're doing Baby led weaning. If you want to go down the BLW route, you'll probably need to wait a couple of weeks so she is 6 months, and she probably won't swallow any food for a while after that. Their gagging reflex prevents them from choking. At the moment Ruby is biting off chunks of foods like toast, cucumber and roast sweet potato but she doesn't know how to move it to be back of her mouth yet, so the food just falls out.
Why don't you check out the Baby led weaning support thread at the top, there's a few of us just starting out with it :)

Yep, ditch the purees and go for BLW! You could also just let her have control over the spoon, I know she won't be able to get as much in her mouth as you but still!

For example, tonight Aisling had sweet potato wedges, rice cakes and 2 fish fingers. Except for the rice cakes, she's not great at holding the food herself if she's not in the mood so we have to help her but she seems so much happier doing this than the purees.
