28 weeks preg but only measuring 24cm on fundal height!? advise please

I went for my 28 week app today and im 28 weeks + 4 days. She measured my fundal height and its only 24 cm! ive got a growth scan tomorrow but im so worried. From what i have read i should be around 27-28cm. So im very small but i am carrying low, have been since i started showing. All was good at my 20 week scan. Has any one else been in this situation or no anyone who has? I just want some freindly advise. And is it something to be very worried about? any stories will be appreicated

Fundal height isn't an accurate measurement of baby. At 28 weeks I measured 26cm. Had a scan at 32 weeks to check placenta position and no growth problems then. But at my midwife appt yesterday I'm only measuring 33cm and I'm 37 weeks tomorrow. I've got an appt today where I assume I'll get a growth scan. I've been assured by the hospital that if there were major concerns theyd have rushed me in. I'll have more info for u this afternoon xx

I thinks it's a load of rubbish. At 36 weeks she measured 36 cm then at 38 weeks she measured 34cm and as she was about to put it on my chart she realised it was less than last time so she measured again and said it was 38cm. They just make it up if you ask me

I was asking my m/w about this and she said it's not an accurate measurement, so i'm not really sure why they do it?! Anyway, she was saying how it also measures amniotic fluid and takes no account of the way baby is lying. She also said they don't look at the weeks relating to cm anymore. They go on the personal growth chart in your notes and ensure baby is plotting along the line at a steady pace. i.e what is normal for you. So if you were plotting along the 50th percentile and then dropped suddenly to the 25th they would then send you for a scan. Has your level of growth changed, or is it just because your fundal height doesn't match the number of weeks?

Exactly. But when your midwife is straight on the phone to l&d to make you an appt it's scary! And then it took me 2 hours to get through to l&d to find out what will happen today! Needless to say I've had a crap nights sleep! xx

I'm measuring 35 weeks when I'm just over 39 ... My mw didn't seemed bothered by it, so confusing !

its because my fundal height doesnt match my weeks. this is the first time i have been measured. i dont think i even have a growth chart? i did think when she measuring me it looked very inaccurate way of telling how big i am x

No we don't have a growth chart either, yet another local midwifery team do! Funny how something so important is done so differently...

I was measured by 2 midwives and a doctor on the same day this week and they all came out with a different measurement, 38, 40 and 42 weeks so I wouldn't panic too much

Hi hun just got bk from the hospital. Placenta and cord are working fine. Had a growth scan and baby is measuring slightly small but still within normal range so they are happy that everything is fine. xx

I went for my 28 week midwife appointment 2 weeks ago and I was also measuring 24cm so 4 weeks smaller than I should have been.

The midwife booked me in for an emergency growth scan and I was a nervous wreck. I know exactly how u feel but the measurements are not that accurate honestly.

I went for my scan and my baby is fine, he was the right size for 28 weeks and the water around him was right aswell.

They told me because I'm quite small there is not a lot of fat between me and the baby and this is why.

They estimated his weight 2 be just under 3lb and his measurements where perfect.

I know it's really hard but try not 2 worry so much because chances are everything is fine.

I was in the same situation. At 28 weeks was measuring about 24. Had a growth scan two weeks later (yesterday) and baby is measuring 3 lb 11 oz, three days ahead. My fundal height yesterday was still 3 weeks behind. She said it must be because I am just small.

i wouldn't worry! 2 weeks ago i was 26 weeks and my fundal height was only 23cm! i was a bit worried but today i am 28 weeks and he/she had grown to 27cm! the midwife said its not very accurate but just looks for growth so as long as its growing, should be fine!

my midwife also told me that 27 weeks is a bit early to start measuring fundal height? so at 31 weeks they start to take it a bit more serious by at 27 weeks they look for any kind of growth, regardless of the numbers. dont worry! xx
