I am getting so frustrated trying to get pregnant with #1! We've been trying since Oct. 2010 to no avail.

Anyone else have this going on? I thought it'd be so much easier! :growlmad:

You are not alone, and you have definetly come to the right place. Just like I'm sure you have heard before, it can take some time. I know that is frustrating, but I guess that's just the way it goes. Have you and your S/O been checked out to make sure their are no issues that are delaying the process?

My husband and I have been trying for a year, but found out 5 months ago that I don't ovulate on my own. So, I guess only 5 of those months have counted. It took both of my sisters over a year each time, and they both now have two children. I know you hear the average is normally lower than that, and some people conceive right away, but their are A LOT that don't. Don't let that get you down, and just keep trying.

If you need a buddy to help you through these tough times, I would be more than happy to help! Just know that you are not alone in this process!

TTC is tricky and definitely takes longer than I ever expected and I expected a long haul since I have PCOS and rarely ovulate on my own. If you have no success by the year mark, go and get checked out. It is good to know if you have problems early on so you can get on correcting them. It also gives you piece of mind knowing what is going on.

Hi PBTS, I'm 33 and we've been trying for 8 months too...with no results at all. We are both healthy and my cycles are perfect 28 days. I didn't think it would take this long. I'm constantly trawling this site trying to find that 1 thing that we're not doing that everyone else is. But now I realise I just have to wait and be patient :-( that's the one thing I can't do!

im 26 (will be 27 in 5 days) and have been TTC for 11 months....brutal..

PBTS I know how you feel! I'm 35 and have been TTC for almost a year now. I always thought that it would happen right away for me but no luck so far. I've been to my doctor for testing and everything is normal with me and my DH. So we just have to keep trying. Last week I finally got my first BFP!! But sadly, a few days later I started cramping and bleeding. I tested again and got a BFN. :(

Hi, I'm 31 and have been trying to conceive my first for 7 months now. My husband has crohns disease and is on a lot of meds so I'm worried that this might be affecting things. I always thought it would be easy to fall pregnant so I am getting so frustrated. Am starting to feel like the waiting is taking over my life - can't seem to concentrate on anything else!

Hi I'm 25 and we have also been trying for 8 months. And yeah it's seriously annoying!! Seems like everyone around us is falling pregnant just by clicking their fingers. I have PCOS and have lost 2 angels already(both many years ago), and possibly another angel in january of this year although we will never know for sure about that one. I've started using Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs) last month and this, and so far I haven't ovulated at all. I've been to the Dr and he's said he wont even think about sending us for tests until we have been trying for at least one year!
I'm coming to the conclusion that we are just going to have to sit it out until a year is up and then just maybe we'll have twins from all the lovely stimulating drugs they'll be giving us haha! On a serious note, it does seem that having children for us at least (as well as many many more couples) is a waiting game... as well as a roller coaster with emotions going up and down and hope doing loop the loop! I know its hard but please just keep trying! Baby dust and luck to you xxx

Welcome!
I am 27 and have been TTC #1 for a few months myself. Never in a million years thought it would take soooooo super long and be as frustrating as it is.
Hang in there....its really nice here...lots of wonderful people with tons of info to help you in the process.

Hi Ladies!

I'm 25 and on cycle #7, 3 days late for AF on a usual 27day cycle so FX'ed altho i'm sure it will turn up when I least expect :)

Who thought it would take so long! You have sex - you get a baby, isnt that what sex ed said??? xx

I'm 21 and been TTC for a year now :( i have never been pregnant so it's worrying now really. I know a year can be classed as 'normal' but it feels like soooo long.

Getting depressing now x

Yea I'm finding it really hard. I went to the dr fairly early as I suspected somthing was up, but had been having no luck with a very ignorant male dr who dismissed everything and told me "There is no garantuee anyone will have a baby anyway" (in response to me requesting more investigation as I hadn't had a period for over 6 months!!!) I changed dr's and found a female one who was far more understanding and referred me straightaway for lots of tests. There might not be anything wrong but they could check your hormone levels at least in the surgery I think (before referring to a FS)

That was how my dr knew to refer me to the hospital and in less than 3 months I'd then had a lap and dye, been diagnosed with pcos and endo and been prescribed Clomid.... which I'm grateful has hopefully shortened the length of my TTC journey for me. I had to have a month off TTC for other reasons and am now back and about to start Clomid cycle 1 if my current (all natural) cycle is unsuccessful (but I haven't yet been trying a year)

Don't give up, be persistent with the gp or change if necessary till you get one who takes an interest in your fertility. I know I could not have waited a whole year, I actually burst into tears when the dr agreed to run tests I was so relieved x

@Jessi - i think i've got PCOS but was dismissed by a male doctor too! Apparently because my testosterone levels were fine i don't have it even though i've got every symptom going!

I know that testosterone alone isn't an indicator of PCOS but doctors just seem so reluctant to look into problems conceiving and i just don't get it?! So frustrating...

PCOS is a funny thing. No two cases are alike. I never had bad skin or hair growing where it shouldn't be. Those are two classic signs but I didn't have them. I had inability to lose weight and irregular periods. Sometimes you need to be proactive and demand a blood test and ultrasound to rule it out from your doctor. Find a doctor who will listen to you. i guess I was lucky when my doctor ordered the test 10 years ago. But sometimes you have to be demanding with the docs in order to get them to listen to you

@miniusnumber1: I would def see another dr! The male dr I had - to give him his due, he did 1 blood test (ON THE WRONG DAY!!!) which just screams of how ignorant he was, he sent me for a blood test without any clue it had to be any particular day of the cycle. Therefore my result came back normal.

When the new dr did my blood tests she did them on the right days... the progesterone level came back at 0.9!!!! (which is wayyyyy too low and gave her a big clue it was PCOS) She was disgusted that the previous dr had only done 1 blood test too and told me that is now how you're meant to diagnose PCOS! You should have at least a few tests - she ran loads of blood tests, as well as checking the physical appearance ones eg, was I overweight? suffering from acne? did I have excess hair growth? Then she sent me for an internal ultrasound to be sure...

As wantanerd says 'No two cases of PCOS are alike' With me my only symptom really is not ovulating with irregular periods. I dont suffer much with acne though I get a few spots from time to time, I dont have excess facial hair, I'm a little overweight right now but I find it really easy to lose weight when I do diet/excercise....however it showed on the internal ultrasound that both my ovaries were polycystic...

It was ladies on here who encouraged me to go to a different dr since mine wasn't really paying enough attention, and I'm Sooooooooooooooooooooo glad I did! x

My doctor (male also!) didn't send me on a particular day either and even i thought that was strange because even i know that hormones change at different points throughout a cycle...the reason i know this is because my symptoms flare up at different points! He just gave me a number and said phone them and book an appointment. When i phoned for my results the receptionist literally just said 'all normal - no further action needed'!!

Since stopping my pill i've had really bad skin and increase in hair on upper lip and belly..hair on my crown on my head seems a tiny bit thinner as well. Periods are irregular even though they're usually under 40 days. Weight is still fine though like you said Jessi..i have a little flab on my belly etc but its purely down to lack of exercise. When i exercise it falls off easily.

My IGNORANT doctor actually said 'people with PCOS usually don't have periods, so i think you're fine'...um hellooo?!

Talking about it makes me so angry at the lack of interest doctors show in their patients. They just always seem to reluctant to look into problems in any depth :(

I had pretty much the same experience as you, I believed the first dr that nothing was wrong to begin with as I'd told the nurse who took the blood what the blood test was for and she hadn't mentioned anything like, "So, what day of your cycle are you on?" but now I realise (like your receptionist) she probably could never have been expected to know, whereas my dr on the other hand should probably have had some idea given how common the condition is - or at least his computer screen where he checks what prescription/referrals to make should have flagged something up. And people with PCOS actually DO often have periods (though some dont!) I have a period most months though my cycle can be anywhere from 28 days to 46 days and for the last few months has been about 45-46 days. I've considered writing a formal complaint against that gp as I was so angry after discovering that I actually DO have things he dismissed as even possible, haven't yet mind, but imagine if I believed him for years and continued TTC while I'm not even ovulating properly by myself? I could have lost years off my reproductive age down to his disinterest:growlmad:.

Seriously hun, swap dr's if he's not prepared to listen!

I think male dr's are sometimes too embarrassed to look into womens issues as they should, I even suspect in my case that he actually didn't class me as suitable to give relevant information to as I was unmarried at the time (though I'd told him I was engaged and planned to start TTC as soon as I was married hence not having a period was somewhat concerning me) as when I returned with my husband after we married he gave us a full talk on the 'birds and the bees'! :haha:Unfortunately even that was extremely patronising and hubby and I have learnt far more useful info than he gave concerning TTC from B&B x
