Just curious what can your 3-4 year old do ?? I always though Dec was bang on (average) when it came to what he can and cant do, but lately I am seeing more and more threads/status' about children much, much younger who can do more

This is what he can do
He can almost dress himself, still finds buttons and things a bit hard
He can ride a bike/scooter/skateboard
He can write his name/letters/numbers
He draws pictures that actually look like something :haha:
He knows his alphabet
He knows all lower case letter (we havent started Upper case yet)
He Knows all numbers up to 20 and he can count to 25
He knows the days of the week
He knows and understands seasons
He has some concept of telling the time and can tell you when it is o'clock and 1/2 past
He can do 100/150 piece puzzles

Thats all I can think of, so what can your 3-4 year old do ?? and if you dont have a 3-4 year old do you think he is on track :flower:

Ohhhhhh should have said he will be 4 at the end of Oct.

my son can't do 1/2 of that, but he's only 3.

He can:
He can almost dress himself
He can ride a bike/scooter
He knows his alphabet
He Knows all numbers up to 15
He knows his colors and shapes

He sounds like he's on a track and maybe even a head of the game. i don't think my 4 year old nephew knows or can do all the things you listed. ;)

Tom can't do half of that.

He feeds himself.
Pulls his nappy / clothes off
Goes to the potty on his own
Plays angry birds
He knows colours and shapes, and nose / ear / forehead / eye etc.

He still can only say a few words :(

Grace can't do half those things. She was 3 in July. She can:

*Say the alphabet A-Z
*Count to 20
*Recognise her own name
*Knows all colours/shapes
*Speak in full length sentences in context
*Can match letters with objects etc using flashcards

My son was 4 in August and up until them the only things he could do were those highlighted

I don't consider him to be behind at all and neither did the pre-school he went to.

Since he turned 4 he has learnt to recite the alphabet and is showing an interest in wanting to know what the letters are in words.

Don't get sucked into the whole 'my child can do this' Your child won't thank you for pushing them in the long term.

I've always worked on the basis that i would rather my son knew less rather than more when he started school - that way when they learn the basics he won't get bored because he already knows what the teacher is talking about - if my son gets bored he gets naughty (as do a lot of children)!

No I am really not get sucked into "my child can do this" I was just wondering where other 3-4 year olds where at
I only teach Dec what I think he should know, he taught himself the alphabet with a game he had  and he started to get interested in writing while playing with my ipad, there was games where you had to trace the letters and he loved it, so I only work on what he shows interest in

that's cool - my son has that sort of app on my iPod but it's only now that he's getting to like it. He enjoys tracing the letters but it hasn't taught him what those letters are yet

The one that we have says the letters as Dec is tracing them, for example if he is tracing B it will say " B-B is for Bee" there will be a little picture of a bee :)
