I'm getting worried. I can't take anything because it'll go into her through my boobs! Should I have 100% have gone by now? My midwife didn't seem concerned?

I remember taking about 3 days to "go" after having a baby and that was normal, but you'll need to drink more water. With your body producing milk and using up you water stores, it causes some constipation. More water & even more water, it will happen.

Good luck:)

Sorry i dont no the answer, but how is it being a mummy? :D xx

It was 5 days before I eventually managed to go and that was with the help of a constipation medicine. There are some that are safe to take even if breast feeding.

I think part of the reason I took to long to go was because I was scared after reading horror stories on here of the pain girls went through the first time after labour. In the end the worrying was for nothing, it wasn't bad at all.

Oh and if you are really worried you can use a glycerin suppository. They really do work, but ya gotta hold it for as long as you can.

That's strange cuz I remember going the second day after having him maybe cuz i had a section though :S

took me ages after all of mine think its worse wen ya hav stitches coz i was scared!!!

i found this wen i was searching wen i was worried so thought id paste it here for ya ....

There are many physiological factors at work that could interfere with your bowel function after delivery. For one thing, your stomach muscles, which help you poop, have become stretched and weakened. Your bowel itself may have had a rough time during delivery and needs time to get back to its old self. Plus, you may not have much to go on if you haven't eaten much since labor started (hard to poop on two Jell-Os and three Popsicles), and/or if labor began with diarrhea.

Aside from all that (but maybe even more powerful) is the fear factor. You're probably worried about splitting your stitches (you won't), aggravating your hemorrhoids, experiencing a great deal of pain (again, so soon?), or being embarrassed — especially if you're still sharing a room in the hospital.

What you need to know about it: If you stay calm and focus on your baby instead of your bottom, you'll be way ahead of the game (poop happens — but it's more likely to happen when you're not obsessing about it). And while the first few movements may be uncomfortable, you'll do a bit better every time. Plus, there are several strategies you can employ to minimize this monumental movement.

What you can do about bowel movements:
  • Remember, fiber is your friend. Whether you're in the hospital or home, try to eat as many whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables as possible. Dried fruits and nuts can rough things up, too. And while you definitely deserve that boxful of chocolates your Aunt Sylvia brought you, try not to plunge in head-first (chocolate can be constipating).
  • Lap up those liquids. You not only need to replace the fluids you lost during delivery, but staying hydrated will also soften your stool and get things moving inside.
  • Take a stroll. The more you move, the more likely you are to move your bowels. A leisurely walk (don't overdo it) can work wonders, as can practicing your Kegels. (Keep in mind that you probably won't be able to feel yourself doing the Kegels at first if you delivered vaginally; the area will be too numb — but do them anyway.)
  • Try to relax when nature calls. Not only will relaxing promote results, but straining leads to or aggravates hemorrhoids — plus, it just plain hurts.
  • Go for the stool softener and if necessary, a mild laxative — but check with your practitioner before you do.

the midwifes told me in hosptal its normal not to go for days but i went on the 2nd or 3rd day but i had a section not sure if that makes a difference xx

I managed the day after as well, and it wasn't painful like anyone else had said it would be.

Eat lots of fibre and drink lots of water :)

wasnt really painfull for me either allthough id had a section so not sure if that makes a difference xx

They prescribe you stool softeners at the hospital I delivered at if your breastfeeding or formula feeding, so I'm assuming it should be fine. You could always ask the pharmacist what medications are safe to take when breastfeeding if you have any worries.

Took me almost 10 days !!! Because I was so scared because I tore.

Yeah I was scared because my stitches are so sore! Anyway, I went tonight and it was fine. :)

Wow, if they would have waited for me to go, I would have been there almost 10 days! I was terrified of it. They prescribed my Dulcolax to take and that made a big difference. It hurt so bad I almost threw up.

It's good that so many mamas had an ok time with that first poo... :)

Mine was awful with DD#1, partly because I had no idea that it could be so painful if I waited and waited and waited!

This one has been much better, though things are still a little 'slow' down there- it's been nothing (pain wise) compared to first.

Mine are really soft, and compared to the pain of the stitches when I pee, bowel movements aren't all that bad!
