How much does your LO drink at 3 weeks old?

My LO was having 5 oz every 4 hours but last night after 3 hours he was hungry again, went 4 and 5 hours in the night but after 3 hours this afternoon he was hungry again do I increase to 6oz or feed him every 3 hours/5oz on demand?

My lo refuses to drink more than 1-2 oz at a time and feeds every 2hrs, she's 3wks tomorrow.

So while I can't advise on experience, I can however let you know what my hv said and that is that as soon as lo starts drinking the whole feed each time and then wants more in a shorter time frame, then it's time to up the milk to the next stage. So based on that I'd say increase to 6oz hon.

How much does he weigh? x

He was 8lb 3 on Tues, the same as his birth weight, between the days 5 and 11 he didn't put on any weight so worried I'm not giving him enough.

Sometimes ava does that, she will go 3 hours then 5, mostly 4 tho, i just feed her when she wants it if its been 3 hours or more since her last feed, and if shes still asleep i will wake her after 4.5 hours from the last feed and give her it so she doestn go more than 5 hours. Apart from nighttimes where i let her sleep till she wants it and shes gone 12-7. I noticed inthe evenings now shes started going 3 hours for her last 2 feeds but then sleeping thru longer..

When my LO was 3 wks old, I was going for 3 oz every 3 hrs, then went up to 4 oz every 4hrs. I didnt increase it although it's written on the tin that he should take 5 oz. At night he can go up to 6 hrs without a feed. But again, babies are not all the same, and I always try not to overfeed without starving my LO

At 3 weeks Ruby was having about 3oz every 2 hours in the day, going longer at night but I can't remember how long...

My lo was having his growth spurt early at 3 weeks, and so we had him draining a 5oz bottle every 3 hours, day and night, for nearly a week. He dropped back down to 4oz for a while after that.

If he's emptying the 5oz bottles, try the offering 6oz and see what happens - it's better to waste a little formula than be faffing around making more up part way through. If he he isn't taking it all, you can always drop back down again. If he does take more, you might get a bit longer between feeds - fingers crossed, I remember how tiring 3 hourly feeds were.

Good luck!

I'd carry on with 5oz's on demand. If he's not crying/fussing after drinking 5oz's its unlikely he'd take anymore if you did make it up.

My LO started to take 5oz's at 3 weeks and still does now @ 8 weeks.

Cant help with regards to the lack of weight gain, just get him weighed regularly and if theres any probs you're health visitor should be able to advise you

xx
