This is my second child so I can't really believe I'm needing this advice but I'm sure DD was more awake and alert even so young. My DS from say 7am when I get up to 8pm when I put him to bed just sleeps...I have started waking hin every 2 hours to feed (??) and definitely didn't do this with DD. DD also ate more...breastfeeding both. If I left him I'm guessing he'd wake every 4 hours...should I leave him?? The other reason I'm asking is I'm trying to adjust his sleep cycles as at night time atm he sleeps 8pm-11 (expressed bottle from Dad) then 12-2...then 2:30-4 then up hourly til 7am...so feeds when waking obviously. Also when he does wake for feeds in the day he just goes back to sleep...no play (interaction) - no looking around for more than 10 minutes etc...

Any advice would be great. My DD slept from 8-3 at 4 weeks old

I don't have any advice but the lady next door to me also had to wake her newborn to feed him because he slept constantly as well. So you're not alone. Maybe ask your health visitor if you're concerned? I wouldn't compare how your baby is now to how your first one was, they're all different and I'd think as long as they are taking the milk when you're feeding them then they should be fine. That's just how I would think :)

My lo did this at 3 weeks, she would wake and feed about every 3 hrs sometimes 4 thru the day and wouldn't stay awake very long at all not till she was about 4-5 weeks then she stayed awake longer. I think if your lo is feeding lots thru the night I wouldn't worry to much thru the day especially if he's gaining weight. Every 2 hrs thru the day mite be to much I'd say leave it 3 or no longer than 4 hrs before waking him. X

Bundle how did your little one sleep at night on that schedule?

Sb86, thank you - how are you getting on? I remember us talking briefly at the beginning and look at us know! We got there with our beautiful bundles!

My lo is almost 4 weeks now. She still sleeps a lot during the day and it's nearly impossible to wake her if she wants to sleep. She wakes up more after 6pm and likes to feed a lot between 6pm and bedtime. I put her down around 11pm and she will wake around 3am, 6 am, and 10 am.

To me your lo seems totally normal. I would try not to compare because babies are so different. Even my mom says I slept through the night in the first week and my lo is not. Compare your own lo week to week ie. I notice that my lo is awake more this week than she was last week so that's an improvement.

Sophie was the same, I had to wake her up all the time. She woukdt sleep so long that my boobs would go hard and rocks and then leak milk till my front was soaked otherwise!

Ttc first that night time waking is brilliant - any tips?? Did your DD do that at 3 weeks too?

Ha ha Minties I'm glad I'm not alone. ..although they were rocks with my DD they're not with this one...maybe second time round they adjust...

Also ttc first..from 6-11pm is she purely feeding at the boob? Or if she sleeps do you wake her often in your arms for more? I go to bed at 9pm atm as so tired so DS is in bed for 8:30 pm

Up every 1-2 hrs thru the night it was exhausting lol

I think 4 hours is ok as long as the weight gain is on track.
