She just won't stay asleep. She is so exhausted, and will fall asleep AND stay asleep as long as I'm holding her but as soon as I put her down in her bassinet, she screams her head off. She wants to eat literally every half hour to an hour, and I've been giving her as much as she wants. But she just keeps waking up when she passes out. As of right now I've been holding her for almost 2 hours just so she gets some sleep!

Any ideas what's going on with her?? Her butt has been rumbling all day, maybe just gassy? Doesn't explain really why she'll sleep in my arms and not on her own.

Totally normal. I think a newborn who happily sleeps on their own is the exception and not the rule. They're so tiny and the world is new and scary... you are the only thing they know, so it's normal for them to want to be close to you.

I held my LO for naps for 12 months. That's on the 'extreme' end I'm sure, and definitely not what everyone would do, but the point being that your baby is still so very new and it's completely normal. :)

As for the frequent eating, there's a huge growth spurt around 3 weeks, so that's also normal.

U say she is gassy so maybe trapped wind/stomach ache?? They do cry when lay flat, also babies with stomach ache want to suck on somethin, plus overfeedin will make any stomach ache worse so its a vicious cycle xx

That sounds like my LO. He is now three months and I am typing this with him asleep on my chest, he needs to be cuddled to sleep well and if I try to move him he wakes up. I either will sit with him and cuddle him or let him sleep in a sling so he is always close. He usually hates his pram too so the sling has been the best investment I have ever made!

The feeding sounds normal too, I also thought that there was a growth spurt around 3 weeks x

My lo was like this I just went with it and held her so she slept and was less cranky. Now at 8 months she self settles to sleep and goes 7 PM till 6 am. They grow up so quick I would love it if she slept on me again but she likes her bed!

I agree with Hall, are you breastfeeding?
If so, I'd say a growth spurt.
I found around three weeks I couldn't put my daughter down and she wouldn't settle for her dad either. She was constantly hungry and would fall asleep at the breast, but that's it!
The only thing to tell yourself is that 'it will get better'.
:hugs:

Yep, no advice but just to say my 1st baby was the exact same, and this one seems to be too. I had to give in and let her sleep in my bed with me laid beside her on my side with boob out within mouths reach last night just so we both got some sleep! (i was on day 4 without any).
