So this is starting to get a bit strange, for the past hour or two I have been leaking tons of colostrum, enough that it almost fountains out of my boob when I squeeze it. I've been noticing more and more the closer I get to full term. But this seems like a bit much considering this is my first baby. Am I just going to be a fantastic milk producer or something?

That would be awesome! Have you thought of pumping it and storing it in the freezer in case for some reason you cant get anything out when the baby is born? I heard its really hard to bump colostrum but i also heard of some girls pumping and saving it just in case.

While researching earlier I read that pumping can cause preterm labor and its not a good idea. I also don't have a pump yet. The health clinic here gives you one after you have your baby so I am waiting till then to get mine. I don't know, hopefully its not getting stronger due to possible preterm labor? Which I doubt, because I haven't had much problems with Braxton Hicks. Nor any bleeding, pain or watery discharge. I guess I really am just going to be a milk cow.

OH GOSH i did not know that! Good thing you researched cause i was soo planning on trying if i start leaking before shes born.....Well hey being a "milk cow" will be a good thing! Im super worried that i wont produce and have to FF which i realllllly dont want..

My mother never leaked during her pregnancy. I of which have been leaking since 19 weeks. Some women just don't have colostrum come down till the baby is born which will release a hormone that lets your body know its ready!

Stalking. Im exactly the same since 18 weeks and is my first baby as well. Its just flows and sometimes I dont notice until im soaking. I was thinking the same will I produce a good milk supply since its free flowing with no problems

I leak quite a bit on the evenings, I was quite shocked, as it never happened when pregnant with my other two.

No, definitely don't express yet - probably unlikely to cause a problem, but not worth the risk!

In my first pregnancy I leaked from 16 weeks, and eventually had to start wearing breast pads to soak it up, can't remember at what point, though. My milk production was ridiculous - I ended up having to exclusively express due to problems my son had with latching, due to an undiagnosed lip tie, and I ended up with a freezer (well, actually 3 freezers - mine, my parents and my in-laws') full of stored expressed milk! I was a little obsessive and kept a record of the volumes I pumped and how much Hayden drank, and at my peak I was expressing 3 times the amount he was drinking! Wouldn't recommend it, though - I ended up with a breast abcess which had to be drained multiple times due to my crazy over supply. That was a bit of a wake-up call and I realised that it had got out of hand. When you breast feed your baby regulates your supply and I wasn't doing that properly, but it did show me what my breasts were capable of!

Anyway, this time I noticed leaking quite a bit later, probably about 28 weeks, and it's not so much. But I have GD, so now that I am 37 weeks I have started hand expressing colostrum to freeze and take to hospital with me in case baby needs top ups to treat low blood sugar after she is born. I am getting a pretty respectable 5-10ml a time. I won't store too much, though - remember you only produce colostrum for a few days after baby is born, then it changes to mature milk, and this happens for a reason - I won't need much colostrum because I won't need it for long.

So to answer your question, yes it might mean you will be a fantastic milk producer - in my experience it did - but we are all different, so who knows

I'm the same. I get tons out! Gonna hand express and keep it for baby when she arrives! :-)

I was told that the colostrum you produce during pregnancy has anything to do with how much milk you'll produce after birth, as the hormones that are causing it are quite different. My sister leaked a LOT with her first. She had wet-looking shirts despite wearing 2 breast pads on each nipple throughout the entire pregnancy, and she was unable to BF solely - produced very little milk after birth. I didn't leak at all during pregnancy and produced more milk than my baby needed and had to pump and store the excess. This time, I leak every time my 14 month old son or my 5 month old nephew cry. LOL

Still, hopefully you still produce plenty of milk. If not, there are plenty of ways to get your body to produce more as long as you work at it! :)
