hi everyone- so went into prem labour at 34+5 days- baby #3- hospital managed to stop it after 2 days of medication- in the meantime they gave me steroids to help bubs lungs along (just in case she still wanted to come despite them trying to stop labour) anyway- the steroids made my BS rise to 27!!! eek! and for the next 2 dys the docs had to give me insulin to bring it back down.. after eating the disgusting hospital food (my diabetic dinner menu was: meat, some tiny 5c coin sized portion on chives chopped, potato, white rice and pumpkin!? wtf!? couldn't understand it- i can't eat that sort of carbs!! i try and stay away from all that..) ended up with 12 BS readings and then down to 8 :/ so after hubby started bringing in my 'normal' food i ate, they returned to 5-6 :) they've let me out but having insulin. now im working out an overnight 'snack' which tonight ill try a little piece of fruit because my reading of a morning have been high.
im looking for some breakfast meal ideas as i seem to have the lunch and dinners under control :)

im currently 35 + 3 days now and on bed rest (though been having a short walk around the block after Breakky though...) happy to keep baby in for longer but wasn't happy with the treatment at the hospital and there's plenty of other reasons too.. this has just exhausted me im only starting to feel better now. thank god im home though!

fingers crossed this GD disappears after i have bubs... has it not gone away for anyone at all? just want to be prepared for if it doesn't- then what happens?

thanks in advance anyone who can offer advice? :dohh:

Hello! Wow 27 must have been a scary result.

Protein is now your best friend :D

Look up low GI diets/meals for billions of great ideas online.

The basic trick seems to be to move to complex carbs only so whole grain, rye, basmati rice instead of long grain.

Every time you have a carb match it with protein, egg, meat, nuts and so on.

Typical day for me now would be:

Breakfast- bacon & scrambled egg or porridge

Lunch: whole wheat wrap filled with chicken, salad and mayo or cheese &pickle

Dinner: stir fry with noodles, meat &veg or whole wheat pasta, meat and sauce

Snacks- fruit &veg, handful of nuts, boiled egg, cheese string, scotch egg, ryvita with cheese spread.

Thanks everyone for tryout replies :)
I'm happy they've helped keep her in there still having pains but just taking it easy... Thd GD seems to be ok as long as I eat perfectly! If I have porridge or carbs it goes up.. But if I don't it's pretty low- it's almost like I need a 'bite' of rice it something with my meal... Thru still have me on insulin from hospital when they have me steroids and my reading afterwards was 27!!! :( checkup on Monday to reevaluate :) thanks everyone

I had GD with my DS, and when I had my bloodwork done when I found out I was pregnant again, my glucose was very high, as was my A1C, so it looks like I'm just diabetic now.

My breakfasts vary but rely heavily on egg.

I am voraciously hungry with this pregnancy, so I usually have a couple boiled eggs, maybe a whole grain waffle with peanut butter spread on it.
I also like eggs scrambled with a little cheese and some peppers and onions, sometimes on a tortilla and sometimes just plain. You can buy green, red, and yellow peppers and onions in a stir-fry vegetable packet, and just throw them in frozen with your eggs, they cook up in no time and taste delicious.

Nuts are also a great breakfast, they help you stay pretty full, and are naturally low carb. One thing I eat for breakfast on occasion, but loved as a snack when pregnant the first time was graham crackers with peanut butter. Lowfat Yogurt (made with skim milk) with some frozen berries thrown in can make a great breakfast.

It really depends how much sugar/carbs you are allowed with breakfast. I hope some of those ideas appeal to you!

Thanks Hun :)

I also found out as I found out I wAs 10wks pregnant - so they're unsure if it's diabetes or just gestational.. I did have I GD in my last pregnancy maybe it will hang around after this time not sure :(. Had natural yogurt and blueberrys overnight and I got a 5.4 reading which is so good ATM lol
