2 weeks ago almost to the day LO started waking up after just 45 minutes of a nap during the day.
His schedule use to be he would wake up and eat at 7am to go sleep for his first nap by 8:45-9am. He would normally sleep at least a hour and a half at a time if not longer but he has started not sleeping any longer then 45 minutes if I'm lucky. Why?
It seems I never have enough time to get the things done i need to get done in his short naps. The crazy thing is he will sleep that short nap, wake up for a few minutes and then want to go back to sleep for another 30-45 minutes.

Will his naps go back to normal?

I've read that babies sleep cycles are 45 mins and it can sometimes be hard for babies to transition from one sleep cycle to the next. You could try going to baby when he's had 40 mins and be ready to try settle him when he stirs to help him stay asleep.

I've never heard of that. My other 2 slept like a rock for naps and at night. He's still Doug great at night but just broke his naps into 2 naps. Kind of crazy becuase not even 15 minutes after waking up he wants to go back to sleep, then it's back to fighting it all over again. He's a very restless sleeper too. I use to swaddle him but I stopped about 3 weeks ago and I only did at night, but the swaddle me from te store he can get out of so I found it pointless to use it anymore.

I think it's developmental. Usually when learning a new skill.

Count yourself lucky the only naps we've ever had over 45mins have been holding out LO. Good job she like's the sling or I'd get nothing done.

I think or I hope it's just a phase. It started about the same time he started teething really bad. And some days it is bad. He's learning so much and changing so much everyday!

Cat napping is normal at 4/5 months. It's sometimes the only sign of the "4 month sleep regression" for certain babies. It has a number of causes - their sleep matures and they begin to cycle through deep and light sleep like adults, so they can have trouble transitioning through sleep cycles which are usually 45 minutes or so. In addition, there's a lot of developmental growth happening and it's hard for them to sleep. Some don't experience this (like your older kids), but most do. The naps will lengthen when he consolidates to 2 naps between six and nine months old.

45 minutes? My baby's sleep cycles are like 30 minutes. She didn't read the book :p...

Most babies' sleep cycles are about 45 minutes or so, but of course there is variation - just as there is with adults. If your LO wakes after 30 minutes, it's no likely at the end of a sleep cycle. She could be under-tired (not enough time awake, hence the cat nap) or something could be bothering her her.

Charlotte's sleep cycles are EXACTLY 45 minutes in length. You could set your watch by them! She never enters another one during the day, always awake and wants to get up. We do 1.5 hours awake, 45 minute nap on a cycle throughout the day. I actually quite like it. 6 - 9 months is going to throw out our whole routine eek lol. I'll seek your advice at the time Noelle ;) xxx

I think you'll like it! Much more time to go out and do things :)

Not likely? Even when she's sleeping well at night, she tends to stir at about 1/2 hour after falling asleep.

:haha: seems like mine at the moment. since he was 2.5 month hw would nap only ones 1.5 hour then the other naps can be 30mins-60mins long.

but if i breastfeed him after a 30 mins cycle he would usually continue to nap. i tried to stop that now since it made night times harder. im not sure though! seems all the sleep is a mess after he was 3 months and 1 week. but at least he naps easily.

Oh stirring is totally normal. My baby was the nosiest sleeper ever until around 9 months!

No advice but I thought this thread said 'changed his nappy'. Like changed it himself. :haha: I was so confused.

I thought it said changed his nappy too! Would be the worlds most considerate baby.

But you stir between sleep cycles.
