4 month old STILL waking up at night to eat.

Mine did until 18 months and then actually STTN at 22 months

But you might want to leave 1 arm out of the swaddle, they are desperate to chew to soothe at this age (we left 1 arm out at 4 months).

My 4 month old doesn't!
Although we're getting good at getting him in bed asleep by 7, dream feed at 11.... Then every night is different.. We had a few nights of waking at 4' having a bottle and straight back down til 7, but last night he was up at midnight, then 3am and refused to settle... Had 30mins at 4:30 then at 5 was getting louder and louder... So I took him downstairs, had 6oz and back to sleep again.....
My daughter Sttn from 8 weeks old, we did absolutely nothing to encourage it either she just stopped waking at 4am... Really wish she would tell Hayden all about it!

I think that is very normal. Mine didn't sleep through the nite without feeds until about 6 months. He is still very young and no matter how full he is before bed he might just be waking up just because. I honestly would stop all the tricks to get him to STTN. I did those and nearly drove myself crazy!!! :haha::haha:

I agree...that's why I gave up on the 'dream feeds.' Sometimes it worked and other times I just felt like i was interrupting his sleep b/c he didn't want to eat. He would dribble formula everywhere, spit it out, and get frustrated with it. So I said 'to hell with it!"

Heh, there are these types of threads in the toddler section! At 4 months, its perfectly reasonable for a baby to be waking for a feed. Less so maybe at 2 years!

Yeah, I do an armless swaddle now. He was finally ready for it. Until just recently, his arms would wake him up so I had to swaddle. But now, thank God he can sleep with his arms free!! Yay.

What worked for me was keeping her up a little longer and offering her more to eat right before bed. I was seeing that if she didn't get enough during the day, mostly in the evening she would wake up hungry in the middle of the night. So I started feeding her what would normally be her last bottle a little earlier, and then wait 30 minutes and offer more and that seemed to work. But she has been a good sleeper since the beginning so it may just depend on the baby, but it might be worth a try!

2 years!?!! Great. LOL.

Its a lot easier at 2 - you've lost all expectations and don't know different. The 3-6 month mark is the worst because you hear nothing but comparisons and constantly question yourself, asking what you are doing wrong, blaming yourself, searching everywhere & anywhere for a 'cure'.

I hope we're all putting rice in their bottles....... ;)

Kidding everyone :)

Lots of sleepy dust for all the babies to tonight :)

its okay hun, mine still "wakes" 2-3 times a night

what i mean by that is he won't be fully awake, he'll just be fussing with his eyes closed, i'll scoot over, pop a breast in his mouth and he's off to sleep again

According to my hv if a baby wakes during the night before 6 months then he quite obviously still needs feeding. After this stage it may well be just 'routine' rather than hunger - or just wanting a 'comfort' feed. So if you go by that advice what your little one is doing is quite normal. I put my lo down at 7-7.30pm, he wakes naturally for a feed at about 10 and sometimes we sleep through others we dont. Just follow your babies flow, eventually they will start dropping feeds every so often. I always compare it to those newborn stages (I bottlefeed, so maybe no comparison), he used to feed every 2 hours on the dot, now as a rule it is every 4 (except for his last bottle of the day or unless going through a growth spurt), so they do drop feeds when you dont instantly notice.

Agree with others though - trying everything to get them to sttn is a bit soul destroying. This stage wont last forever though - when lo sleeps through I actually sometimes miss that drowsy, cuddly feed - it truly felt at that time in the morning there was only me and him that existed (I am a bit selfish!! hehe)

xx

My LO didnt STTN till 11mths old. No CC, no CIO, just time :flower:

I agree with the PP, its soul destroying attempting to make them STTN, when you go with it you will find it so much easier!

My 5 month old wakes hourly to 2 hourly every night. I try not to feed him at every waking and he doesn't always want it.

Do you know the real kicker? He goes EIGHT HOURS in the day between feeds. I just cannot get him to eat between 8 and 4.

Whoa...I feel for you.

10 months mine was waking for feed still! I swear I thought it would never end but it does!
Honestly, try and go with the flow... It'll soon be over!

My LO first STTN (7pm till 5am) at 4 months but unfortunately it was just a one off. From about 6 months she STTN about once a week and by 8 months she STTN more or less every night. We still have off-nights when she's teething or poorly but otherwise pretty consistent.

So it just takes time really and 4 months is pretty early to be sleeping through. The thing is, people like to tell everyone about the things their LOs can do and not so much about the things they can't do yet so that's probably why you keep heating and reading about other peoples LOs sleeping through. It's nothing to worry about and most LOs need at least one feed in the night till they get to about 6/7 months anyway xx

Haven't read all the replies but honestly every baby is different. DS pretty much slept through from 7 weeks but had a dream feed about 11pm which we gave up around 6 months. DD at 7 months is nowhere near sleeping through and is still up looking for milk at least once a night, I'm sure she still needs it as she takes a fair amount of milk. I let her grizzle a bit just to make sure but 9 out of 10 times she doesn't go back to sleep and I have to feed her. I had it in my head that she would be the same as DS, I never in a million years thought I would still be up through the night at this stage, I think I was being naive lol!!! I feel your pain xxx

Aww, I love night feeds. Contrary to popular belief they are totally normal. My LO goes through phases but never less than 2 feeds a night but I know I'll miss them when they're gone, they're so snuggly as my LO never wants snuggles anymore she just wants to play so nighttime is the only chance to get them!

Sophia slept through starting at about 6 weeks or so.

Recently she's been up usually once a night for a feed. Doesn't bother me much, though.
