Had our dating scan yesterday and with a 4mm nuchal measurement they have put us at a high risk for chromasomal abnormality. My head is still spinning this morning and we are now waiting for my blood results to come back so they can give us the combined risk factor.

Am trying to stay positive but finding it difficult and just wondered if anyone else has been through something like this? x

Hi hun, I am also high risk for downs as my bloods were off but my NT scan was OK. been through that head spin for months what to do. I was offered Amnio which I'm guessing will be your next steps after yr result. I refused Amnio due to t risks and will await the arrival now which is 12 weeks away. Read thru some old threads hun there have been ladies on here with high fluid and went on for Amnio and all came back well with the baby. Give yourself a little time for the news to sink in and then maybe some research. As time has gone by it has become easier to handle maybe burying my head in sand a little but these tests do have a high false positive so just because u do have high fluid does not mean something is wrong. It could rectify itself by next scan. Its such a worrying time I cried for days but the more research I did the more I found ladies had a positive outcome. some ladies need to know and once have amnio say it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. I was scared of the risk as I lost my first pregnancy but do wish sometimes as panic can still kick in, especially when I go into labour. I hope yr results come quickly so you can start planning ahead and take time out if you can to decide what would be right for you. Remember its not always bad news, keep faith hun - hugs xx

Thanks for your reply and sorry to hear you are going through a similar thing. Have they given you a risk factor? I totally understand why you declined the amino and it is something we are debating at the moment. One part of me thinks that even a high risk doesn't necessarily mean bad news and to just trust that everything will be ok but the other part of me needs to know so I can prepare myself and deal with what we may be facing. In the meantime we are trying to remain positive until we get more results.

Did you get offered any extra scans at all?

X

My LO had a 3.5mm nuchal at 12 weeks, the blood results came back as a 1:11 chance of Down syndrome. We opted for an amnio at 17 weeks and the FISH results 48 hours later showed that LO has "normal chromosomes". :hugs: I remember the whole thing like it was yesterday - such a massively worrying time.
