Hi ladies,

any ideas if it means I'll go into labor early? As of yesterday, almost 36 weeks, I was 50 % effaced but not dilated... I do want to go into labor early but not too early.. I'd like between 37 and 39 weeks.. cause if I don't go into labor by 40 weeks, I have a c-section..
Anyone know if being effaced now means I'll go into labor soon?

From what i've read, these things don't mean much. You can walk around dilated/effaced for several weeks, or you can be completely closed up in the morning and have a baby by the evening! I know it's not much help, but at least your body is moving in the right direction!!!

At 35+6 days, I was 70% effaced, and had my son the next week at 36+6 weeks. So it may mean you'll go a little earlier, but like PP said, some people stay that way for a long time. But I would assume you'd make it another week, and that next cervix check would give you a better idea, because then you'd see how fast you're progressing. Also, how well/fast you progressed in your previous pregnancy might give you a good indication. :flower:

I think many women are like this, in uk dont get any internals unless is reason so over half could be like this and dont know.

If you was dilating and thinning id see that is higher chance.
Could still be around come 40w. Thats just my personal opinion :)

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you! I got checked yesterday and I'm 1 cm dilated and "thin" according to my doctor. She didn't have the exact percentage for me but she said she could feel his head o_o.

When I told my midwife about this, she told me to take it easy for the next week or so... so I'm guessing it's early for this gestation... PLUS I'm on progesterone to prevent dilation/effacement and it's happening anyway

Only time will tell. I've been on rest since 20 weeks and I was really looking forward to resuming normal activity on Saturday at 36 weeks but looks like things are moving a little faster than expected...

I was in same boat. Still here. Everyone is different

I haven't even had an internal at all this pregnancy so I have no idea. All I know is that baby is engaged. As a PP said it doesn't always mean you'll go into labour early as some people are dilated for weeks.

I was 1cm dilated for a week -at least- before I actually gave birth to my first, so I don't think it really means much in the late stages of the pregnancy. Just shows that your body is getting ready for the big day.

I really hoped to find out today if there was anything going on down there at my consultant appointment but it was a man rather than the usual woman I would see, so unfortunately I didn't even ask. Just didn't feel comfortable.
However I've had the lightening pains and contractions, so I have wondered whether this will mean I'm dilating or at least thinning out in preparation! Guess I will have to wait until 40 weeks (if I make it that far!)

I wish they gave routine checks here :dohh:
