Hey everyone,

Before I hit 6 weeks, I was constantly hungry and eating every hour. After I had finished with my first meal i'd start thinking about what i will eat next. Hunger was one of my first pregnancy symptoms but didnt realize it until i woke up in the middle of the night extremely hungry and thought i was going crazy.
Now as soon as I began 6 weeks i started feeling nauseous and just the thought of eating cereal, eggs and meat makes me want to throw up. Now i'm down to just having yogurt for breakfast and vegetables for lunch. I feel bad that I cant have a proper meal anymore and am worried that I'm depriving the baby of essential nutrients. I know it's still early and I shouldnt be eating for two but I just cant help but wonder how it's effecting my baby's growth.

Anyone here in the same boat??

Me... I actually just wrote a post recently about this. I'm barely eating at all because the sheer thought of putting food into my mouth makes me gag. However, you're not really depriving the baby of anything. It takes what it needs from you. Make sure you're at least taking your vitamins (prenatal, b6, folic acid... whatever you are taking) and try to get small bites in here and there (it's supposed to help with the nausea but I'm not so lucky with that) and you will be fine :)

Oh I feel the same way!!! I am so turned off by the thought of most foods! I'm 4 weeks and 2 days, just found out and I'm trying to eat right but I have no appetite!

Congrats to you both by the way!!!! :)

I totally have this too. Probably once a week I am RAVENOUS and eat a giant meal. Other than that I am basically eating cold cereal for breakfast, bananas/crackers/apples/granola bars for snack, soup for lunch and pasta for dinner. Can't really stomach anything else, meat and eggs are definitely out and most veggies, any sweets and most dairy I can't deal with

I'm feeling the exact same way - last week I was ravenous and this week I don't even want to look at food much less eat it. In terms of calories, a 6-week-old embryo doesn't need a whole lot so as long as you're eating what you can and taking your vitamins I wouldn't worry about it :)

Apparently appetite suppression is pretty common in the first trimester. My evolutionary psychology professor explained it as likely being a protective mechanism to keep pregnant women from ingesting anything that could potentially harm their embryos during a critical period of development (the same has been argued about food aversions and morning sickness).

Same thing happened to me when I was pregnant with my son! I was eating like a cow until I hit about 6-8 weeks. That morning sickness hit me HARD! I actually lost 10 pounds during my first trimester due to morning sickness!

loss of appetite is the start of morning sickness in my pregnancies. Hope it doesn't happen for you but a few days later I have both times become quite sick. 6 weeks is the right time for that to kick in too.

Eating veggies is a good thing! :) If you're worried about your calcium make sure you eat plenty of leafy greens (fresh spinach and broccolis are good). If you're worried about protein make a bean soup or mix some tofu into your stir fry. You can go your whole pregnancy meat/egg/dairy free and be just fine! If you're body is saying no, don't force it because you think your baby needs it. Just work around it :). Congrats and have fun! :D

Blah, beem there-hated that!!! I just got to liking food again around 11 weeks. I still can not stand the smell of eggs/grilled chicken/and chicken nuggets.. Ugh.And guess what hubby lloooovvveeessss to eat..:nope:

I lost some weight from around week 5 - 9. Doctor said I was actually common to loose weight during the first trimester due to nausea. As long as youbstay hydrated and take yor vitamins youbshould be fine Eating for 2 isn't really necessary until after that.

I did the same thing until week 12 started...I'll be 14 weeks Monday and I'm FINALLY able to eat whatever I want again. It does get better, I promise :) My appetite loss was so severe that I ended up losing weight in my first trimester, but the doctor told me that as long as I was eating when and what I could that the baby was fine. So, whatever sounded good I ate! Which meant that I had a LOT of grilled cheese and pretzels. But definitely keep up on your prenatal vitamins and stay hydrated!
