I don't know how worried I should be? We were at an indian restaurant earlier and MIL gave him a piece of naan that had honey drizzled all over it :( I should have checked it :( He seems fine, but I'm so paranoid that something awful will happen to him now :( He is sound asleep and has been fine all night since, but how serious is it for babies under a year to have honey? I know it is due to the risk of botulism infection from the spores sometimes present in honey, that coupled with their weaker immune systems/digestive systems, but should I be waking him and taking him to GP or am I just having a huge freak out over nothing? This has made me even more certain that I should be the ONLY person to feed my son... :dohh:

Maybe ring the GP and ask to speak to the nurse??

Def. call the pediatrician. Otherwise I want to say that in some cultures it is very common to give babies honey (to help with ingesting medicine) . So please try to not worry too much.

You could phone NHS direct for advice, maybe? I imagine the risk is really low but I can totally understand your concern

Thanks guys, just waiting on nhs24 calling back...

The risk of botulism is very very low, like one in a million or something but its a bit like listeria because symptoms don't show immediately and can easily be mistaken for something else-this is why they advise avoiding honey before one year because if it is contaminated with botulin spores it is very hard to detect and babies can become quite ill in the meantime. The recommendation was only made in 1997 and before that most babies had honey prior to 12 months and were fine so while I wouldn't advise drizzling your baby's food with honey a one-off is very unlikely to be of any harm xx

I wouldn't worry, mine was chewing on an ant bait station, a piece of plastic filled with ant killer.:dohh:
After 2 hours of phone calls with NHS direct they assured me he'd be fine.
Really would love a child that eats food rather than every other random thing on the floor...

My youngest is a nightmare too, he has got into various face/hand creams and ate a bit (luckily not fancy ones with exotic sounding ingredients or warnings on them), licked the bathroom cleaner spray but I managed to find the safety data sheet online for that one and it said its not toxic, bubble blowing liquid again the general consensus is its safe if they are given plenty to drink but being made in China who knows? Thankfully at this age he has not only calmed down if he finds anything he knows is inappropriate to eat he brings it to us and gets upset unless we confiscate it! :D xx
