7 month old not saying 'baba', 'mama' etc - help?

Max is definitely a 'talker'. He says dada & baba all the time and says mama when he is upset. He is nowhere near crawling though and has only rolled in 1 direction.

Am glad I saw this thread as I was a bit worried that he ins't rolling the other way but can see now that he is concentrating on chatting rather than moving.

its fine:).All children grow at different paces. My bean didn't start yapping til a lil over 10or 11 months:)

nothing to worry about at all, charlie is 10mths and although he screeches and babbles away he doesnt say any words as such, he's far too busy doing other things. My niece on the otherhand who is almost 10mths, chats away, she says mama, quack quack when you ask her what a duck does, waves when you say goodbye etc..... but compared to charlie she has been "slow" in moving around.

Omar is an early talker. He's been using double words (Dada, papa, tete) since he was 6.5 mnths old. For the past 2 mnths he's been talking & he uses baby talk & some real words perfectly. He also babbles in a foreign language. He expresses himself with words & body gestures.

But he's not good with his hands. He still cant handle finger food properly & cant feed himself. He still puts a preloaded spoon upside down in his mouth sometimes, & he gets bored so quickly when it comes to feeding himself. He tries to put his dummy in his mouth, but when he fails he throws it & gets frustrated.

He started standing on 4 since he was 6.5 mnths but only managed to crawl at 9 mnths (he didnt know how to move his hands forward). He stands alone for few mins & walks when holding hands, & took 2 steps alone before falling. but he doesnt cruise holding furniture, he always leaves the furniture & ends up falling ( he hates holding into things).

Mine's 8 and a half months now and blows raspberries and "shouts" but has only a couple of times made a noise that sounds like it could be a word like yeah. No mama dada etc, despite us saying mamamamam dadadadada to him all the time!

I think he's a mover though, he could sit before 5 months, can properly crawl now, walk with a baby walker (with me close behind cos I don't trust he won't fall),stand unaided for about 10 seconds, pulls himself up on anything and everything and can climb the one exposed stair that isn't covered by the baby gate.

Like someone else said, I should have known, he wriggled and kicked no end when I was pregnant and hasn't stopped since. People actually say that they feel sorry for me if he was anywhere near as active in the womb as he is now lol.

Finlay is 8 months he's been blowing raspberries since 3 months and when he fills his nappy he sure lets me know his raspberries get louder and louder. He says hiya, mum mum, shouts, gurgles, sings and waves. He has been in a baby walker since 3 months and now bangs into everything with it. He isn't crawling yet but if he wants to get somewhere he just rolls. However he can stand on his own for a few seconds. All babys are differerent infact none of my 3 were the same so wouldn't worry too much it will all come in time, then you will know about it

Funny - Anna has just turned 8 months and I am signed up to a monthly development email and it read something like 'your baby has no doubt been saying dada for the last month or so and now you might get mama'

Anna is actually quite good at 'talking'- for the last month or so she has been doing mum, mama, baba, gaga but still no dada - does dada usually come before mama (:blush:sorry, you know what I mean!!!) ??

I think she might end up being an early talker. She sits and goes ' mamagagababaamamamaagagagabab' non stop like she is having huge converstations with herself!

However she is nowhere near crawling or even knees up, just rolling and nowhere near holding up on furniture.:flower:

Daisy is just the same! She chatters away but all the moving sort of stuff hasn't really come yet!

Mika is both a talker and a mover but he goes through phases. For a week or so he will be perfectly still most of the time and babble at the top of his lungs. Mostly adadadada or blah followed by a raspberry. He's really really really good at raspberries, lol.

Then for a week or so, he will be really quiet, no talking at all, but roll like crazy or become engrossed in some toy or some new physical skill.

Thanks all....this is so interesting. It really does seem our babies generally either focus on moving or talking first.

James is definitely better at the physical stuff. He can feed himself using the pincer grip (he fed himself ricecake today holding it between finger and thumb), and we have a little game where I lie him down, then I hold my hands out. He grabs my hands and pulls himself to standing. He loves it!

He's also started doing these funny little froggy hops. I think he wants to do a 'tortoise' crawl (using his feet to crawl) rather than the knee crawl he is currently doing.

But as for talking - all I got out of him today was "ooooo....OOOO....ah-gooo....oooo...OOOOOO..."! I keep saying 'Mama' and 'Dada' to him with no avail - he usually just laughs :dohh:

Austin is 13 months old and isn't saying anything remotely like mummy yet. He has a few recognisable words - daddy, dirty, pub (don't know where he got that one from) but on the whole he mostly just babbles. On the other hand since he learnt to crawl/cruise he has mastered them very quickly so am guessing he is concentrating on moving first and talking later

Mine is a talker but not so much a mover. He says Baba, Mama, Gaga but can't crawl. Although he somehow manages to move all the way across the room without actually crawling, it has me baffled to be honest

I really wouldn't worry about it at all - all babies develop at different rates and my two are a perfect example of that. They will both be 1 next week and Jake has been crawling and sitting up unaided since he was about 7 months old. As for talking though - not a word, just general baby babbling and he is quite a slow and lazy eater aswell - still have to really puree a lot of stuff for him. Keeley on the other hand says Daddy, Makka (Makka Pakka from ITNG) and hiya. She didn't sit up unaided though until she was 9 months and still isn't crawling. As far as eating is concerned she's fantastic and will eat the majority of things. So there you go - I have twins who are worlds apart with regards to development. Just enjoy your LO - everything will happen in its own time :flower: xx BTW - i love ur profile picture - soooo cute :hugs:
