While I understand children do things in their own time I can't help but be a bit concerned that our son is still not babbling at all - no baba, dada, gaga - nothing. He is very social - he squeals, shreiks, laughs, blow raspberries (sometimes) and yells in a variety of pitches but no consonents.

Also no copying - I try to mimic him sometimes and then give him a chance to mimic me and he never does at all (in any way) - he just smiles at me. We read tonnes of books, we talk to him all day, we sing songs, we go to baby lap time (sing time) at the library every week.....?

Does anyone know if its too early to worry? Thoughts?

Hi hun :) Jayden started babbling ""dadadada amamadada"" just over 1 week ago, so he was 8 months, it literally happened overnight :)

I really wouldn't worry yet. He might not be babbling but he's communicating in lots of other ways and 7 months is very young still.

Tom is 16 months and he's just started mimicing sounds I make in the last week....and he only says mumma, daddy, cat , ball and yum yum. But he is so good at communicating with gestures that I generally know what he wants or means. I tend to forget that one day we'll have a conversation with us talking instead of me chatting and him pointing, nodding and shaking his head!

Keep going with the reading and singing and talking to him. It will all be going into his head ready for when he is ready to start babbling.

My LO didn't start babbling until after 9 months xx

Frankie started literally over night about 10 days ago. He now says dadada, babababa and tatata and when he's crying he says mamamama.

He doesn't really mimic either, although the one exception to this is that FIL has managed to teach him to fake cough (and nearly throw up in the process!!)

My little man has only been babbling for a couple of weeks now. One morning he woke up saying da da da. Now we have Ba Ma and anda and late this week yeah lol. He doesn't know what any of them mean but if it's good it's definitely da!

No mimicking me either he just laughs at me. He does try and copy other kids at nursery though.

My LO isnt yet, she also doesnt respond to her own name... but shes just started crawling and pulling herself on to her feet so i'm not too worried yet. I just figure shes concentrating on moving around first and once shes mastered that she'll start with the babbling.

He's still so young, I wouldn't worry yet. Just one thing though, has he had any hearing difficulties. My 3rd and 4th children were later to babble and talk - they were walking at 8 months and 9 months respectively so I thought they were just putting effort into movement. However a hearing test (they both passed their newborn screening) they were both shown to be slightly hard of hearing on certain frequencies.

Your LO sounds exactly like mine. Don't worry, aslong as he is social and vocal that's all that matters right now. Babies babble in their own time! x

Carter didn't really start until his 8th month. I wouldn't worry quite yet hun.

Hey thanks guys - you made me feel much better :flower:

Right now my son is having a tearless scream in his crib to get my attention so I guess your right - he is at least communicating - lol!
