Sorry to gatecrash your forum ladies, but I'm looking for a little ray of hope...

I had an early private scan y'day and was expecting to be 7wks 2 days...

I was told that I was only measuring 5 weeks (4mm) and that its extremely small...bean should have been 10mm....she said its not good news and to come back on Saturday for a re-scan...

The baby had a heart beat, and i really don't know what to make of it?

I know my dates are 100% correct, certainly not out by 2 weeks...

Did any of you have a similar experience at your early scan and baby is doing fine now?

I can't stop crying

thanks x

NOt exactly the same, but I did have a scan that by my dates I was 6 weeks at the latest, but by lmp 7. There wasnt't a heartbeat, just a sac and tiny fetal pole - sonographer said it wasn't looking good. I had to wait two weeks and all was perfect then, I was dated 8+1 - so had been later than I had though all along. Implantaion can take longer than you think. Fingers crossed for you that that is what's happened for you - a heartbeat is a good sign, especially at only five weeks.

How have you calculated your dates? I was using opks and still was a week later than I thought.

i've never has a private scan but i would be wary of the results until you have your nhs one- a heart beat is a great sign! can you call your midwife and explain your concerns and see about getting a scan with nhs?

i had a scary 20 week scan with my first regarding the size of my baby's head and it turned out normal!

good luck and i'm sure your baby is fine- measurements at that early age can be out quite a bit.

Hi meeky, not exactly the same, but I had a scan at 6&3 after a small bleed, and it's showed a fairly large gest sac, a yolk sac, but no fetal pole or HB. I was told that it was more than likely a m/c, but they bought me back a week later to double check (which was by the way one of the worst weeks of my life, esp after a loss only 2 months prior) and bub was there, measuring right on dates with a healthy Hb. It was quite a shock after spending the whole week grieving.
So, good news can happen. In my case bub was just hiding right in the corner of the sac and couldn't be seen.
There are many cases where it's not a positive outcome, so of course you need to try and prepare for that too, but I wouldn't completely give up hope yet. But do cry and let your feelings out if you need to!
Please update when you have another scan - I'll be thinking of you, and I know how you must be feeling xxx

I guess i only calculated my dates based on the fact that i have a completely regular 27 day cycle....i don't actually know when i ovulated....but i know when we BD's....and it doesn't seem to work out that I'm only 5 weeks...esp as it would mean my BFP would have meant i was 1 day pregnant?

x

Thanks for all your responses ladies, just hoping and praying that when i go on Saturday, its grown 3 or 4mm...

I'll let you know x

Happy and healthy pregnancies to you all xx

A heart beat is a good sign! My DR told me at my first scan that a heartbeat reduces the chance of a loss significantly. Maybe your dates are just off? Holding thumbs and praying for you and your little bean!

Hi there, I was so sure of my dates when I went for an early scan, apart from my opk never went positive the month we conceived, so I didn't think I had ovulated. Do you know your ovulation date definitely? As it is possible to ovulate twice a month. Often we ovulate later than usual, causing our periods to be late but not pregnant.
Anyhow at my 7 week (counting from lmp) scan I only measure 5+4, then at my 9 week scan 8+3 then at my 12 I measured 11+6. So I ovulated a few days after I stopped testing as I thought we were out for the month. Baby was small though, but pretty much caught up by 12 weeks.
As previously said a heartbeat is a hugely good sign, I'm really hopefully for you all will be ok. Good luck xx

This happened to my the first scan he measured 2 weeks smaller then it was about a week and half smaller 2 weeks later. Lo didn't catch up to the normal size until 12 weeks, I'm not almost 27 weeks about to head into 3rd tri!! Don't worry or stress :hugs:

My implantation was much later than I thought it would have been. I never had an early scan, so I can't attest to what that would have been, but when I went for my 20 week scan, baby was measuring more than a week behind.

She's all healthy, so it seems everything is good! But I imagine it would have freaked me out too.

Hope everything turns out well!!

:hugs:

Thanks alot for all your responses, trying to hang onto the positive stories and pass that positivity onto our baby xx

I'm truely hoping and praying my dates are just a little off, but my gut tells me to expect the worst....

I will let you all know how i get on, its going to be a long 2 days

xx

Same thing happened to me, although I was kind of expecting to measure behind this time as I didnt get a BFP until 8 days after my period was due.. So I assumed I must have ovulated late. My friend (who was also my sonographer lol) said the same happened to her with her third, and that female sperm swim slower and last longer so in her case she had a girl... when she done my nuchal scan at 12+6 she said 80% girl for me too :) So maybe could be same sort of thing for you??

I had my dating scan when I should have been just under 9 weeks (LMP) but the measurements only gave me 7+1.. then at my nuchal scan I was still measuring a couple of days behind (going by the dating scan date). Where as both my boys always measured a week or two ahead at every scan.

Hope all works out well for you xx

My gut did to from just experiencing a mc in dec last year (at the time it had been only a few months). I knew there was no way at all my dates were 2 weeks off. I was worried, I cried a lot being scared I was going to go through another mc. But all the worrying isn't good for the baby, trust me I know it's hard just keep your head up and think positive!! :hugs:

I went for my 12 week scan expecting to be 12 weeks pregnant, but i wasnt i was only 9 weeks!! I just ovulated later than i thought maybe its the same for you. Good luck with your scan :) x

Hey ladies

Just to let you know things sadly didnt go well today.

Although baby still has a heart beat (which she seemed extremely surpised about) it hasn't grown atall and theres now blood in the sac, which she said means its starting to disentegrate....she expects me to start miscarrying in the next few days

Thanks for all your kind words and support, hope you all have happy and healthy pregnancies

Trying to think that everything happens for a reason and hopefully it will be our time next time

xx

I'm so sorry.

Not sure if this will help, but i had my first ultrasound when i thought i was 11weeks (by calculating from my last period) ..But when they measured the baby, he was only measuring 8w6d.. So i was set back two whole weeks. ..Though i wasn't worried too much about it because 1. he had a heartbeat and 2. my cycles were long.
Will also add that i went in 2 weeks later and saw my baby at 11w3d. (my pic to the left) <3
And as you can see, he grew. Also had a stronger heartbeat!

Hope this helps, and everything turns out for the best! x
