Hi All, this is probably obsessing too much about nothing, but I keep wondering if my LO is ok development wise. She doesn't smile to us that often, we only had a few "practice" smiles and she sleeps a lot throughout the day at the moment. I thought that at that age babies should be getting more interested in their surroundings and fighting sleep?
Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying it, as we had a growth spurt a few days ago and it was a nightmare. Just hope she is ok!

I was hoping for her smiling when she sees us, when does it kick in?

babies smiling randomly occurs anytime from 2-8 weeks; but smiling when they recognise you and in reaction to things tends to occur more from 10 weeks onwards as a minimum. Also some babies can sleep most of the day even up to a few months old xx

My LO was about 9 weeks old before she smiled and about 3months before I could coax a smile. Now she's doing great.

Make the most of the sleep, soon you'll be wishing LO will sleep!

Your LO is doing fantastic, stop worrying and enjoy it xx

My pediatrician said we can expect those smiles between 6-8 weeks (average) so any day now hun. :)

Avery pretty much slept the first two months of her life. I didn't get any good smiles out of her until she was 8 weeks old. She's still not a particularly smiley baby, but that's more of a personality thing. Your baby sounds just fine. :)

Thanks, this is the beginning if motherly paranoia! Lol

I agree, we often forget that babies are little people with different personalities. Some babies are more outgoing than others and will grin and shout at anyone and some will save their smiles for appropriate times!
