.

My LO used to do this when he was on formula. I talked to my pediatrician and he explained to me that there is a huge difference between spit up and vomit. Spit up is not harmful even if it seems like a lot. It's usually quick and baby doesn't seem disturbed by it. Vomit on the other hand is accompanied by loud gagging and the baby is distressed and crying usually. So which kind do you have?

If he's vomiting then he needs to see a doctor soon, he may have some food sensitivities you will want to address.

If it's just spit up I'd advise you to feed him sitting up a little more, try to have his head elevated higher than his feet. The laid back breastfeeding position is most helpful for this. Sit him up and burp him often. And remember, this will get better as baby gets older.

I don't know if it's normal but, my LO has also done this 3 or 4 times since birth, any google search just seems to mention things that would have vomiting a lot more often then she is, so I just went with I will mention it at the doctor's check up in 2 weeks. though I'm now always watching for it when feeding her and wondering if it's something I ate or her taking to much milk?

and I so know what you mean about the washing, it goes everywhere!

This article is a little long but it pertains many feeding problems to milk flow. It discusses how to gauge LO reaction to you milk flow and how a fast or slow flow can cause air to be sucked in and how to compensate. Little lengthy but LO has silent reflux and I hVe noticed some improvements since paying attention to this!

No he doesn't ever get distressed or cry when he does it. As I say has only happened a few times this vomit which is projectile and goes across room. I'm wondering if it is my milk flow as when I switch breasts it's really fast again and twice when I've switched he threw up after.

Yep. She talks about that on the article. That the fast flow from the second breast is too fast when they are half full from he first and tired. we have been doing the switch nursing at night she talks about. It helps so he isn't so uncomfortable

:haha: to the washing comment so know what you mean.

I've wondered whather my little one is reacting to something Ive eaten (namely cheese) so Im cutting out diary at the moment but think he may have a problem with reflux as he gets horrific hiccups sometimes sick with them and hates being on his back.

It's generally not something to worry about and is probably from over-feeding.

However, if it starts to increase in frequency and continues to do so, it may indicate a more serious problem. The alarm bells should go off if he starts to projectile vomit after every feed -- especially if he is immediately hungry again after. If this starts to be the case with your LO, take him to a doctor, demand to be heard, and don't take no for an answer. But don't freak out! This happening is very rare, so your son probably doesn't have what could cause this. I just wanted to put it on your radar screen... just in case.

:hugs:
