So my 8½ month old son (9 months on July 5th) has been lately insisting on sleeping on his belly. He refuses to fall asleep on his back when it's bedtime and will only sleep on his back for his 2 naps in his baby carriage outside (a common practice in Denmark).

So do I let him sleep on his belly or should I turn him over? He can turn onto his back but only can do it in one direction, left.

Yes I would let him sleep on his stomach if he is able to roll on his own.

my grandson wont sleep any other way, at first it terrified me because neither of my own boys done it, but my grandson has done it since he was about 4 months old, I used to wake at night to flip him back on to his back but his mum said that the health visitor said as long as they can roll both ways then its safe for them to sleep on their tummy :)

OK good to know! It's only very recently he's doing this so caught my DH and I off guard. We were afraid of him potentially suffocating and I've heard there's still a risk of SIDS up to baby is 1 year old (although I do know the risk is much lower, just a nervous FTM:haha:) I was also afraid that since he very preferably wants to roll left when rolling from tummy to back that it'd be a problem.
