8 week appt w/ OB - says I am measuring small?

So yesterday was my first appointment with my Obygyn, and she says I am measuring small for 8 weeks, says I measure about 6 weeks. I have an ultrasound next friday, to make sure everything is okay. I'm trying not to worry about it, but you know how it is. I'm nervous that maybe the baby stopped growing or something. I still have my pregnancy symptoms, and haven't been bleeding or cramping, so I'm trying to look on the bright side. I'm hoping to hear if any of you have gone through this, and whether the results were good or bad. I just know the next week is going to d-r-a-g by, until Friday. Thanks for reading this!

What makes the dr. say you are measuring small? Did you get an ultrasound, or will the one Friday be the first? It's way to early for her to say you are measuring small any way other than a u/s.

Same thing happened to me last week.

At "6w6d" i was told my sac looked like 4weeks. i had to get blood taken and went back 4 days later to be dated at 6 weeks exactly and I saw a little heart beat.

If you feel fine, you probably are fine.

Could you have ovulated late? I know I thought I was further than I was, and they measured me at 4w 5d when I thought I was 5 and half to 6 weekish. I went back at 6w and they saw hb, yolk, and baby, and she said that my due date may change but right now we are going by their dates which makes me think I ovulated later.

Thanks for the responses! Next Friday will be my first ultrasound. Dr. checked me internally, so I assume she felt my uterus is small. I'm not sure when I ovulated, just when my last period was, so it is possible I just O'd later. Hadn't thought of that! I sure hope that's the case

Doctors base babies size on the average so don't worry. My original due date with my daughter was February 14 even though I had a positive way before then. At my 12 week scan that they thought was my 10 week scan she showed up developing the way she was supposed to and they moved my due date to February 9th. Then right before she was born the doctor said that she thinks my due date should have originally been the 4th or 5th, and I was induced on the 2nd because she was ready to come out. She was still small, but she was fully developed and is perfectly healthy. Some babies are just smaller than others. So don't fret. the ultrasound next week will show more development to give the doctors a feel for how far along you are and they will see that you are right where they originally predicted!

Cupcake, I honestly wouldn't put any faith on an pelvic exam, really. Next week you'll be further along which helps make the US more accurate. Also, M2L just had an US and they first thought her baby looked smalled, moved the probe to see the baby better and then measured the baby again and the little bean was right on target. Beanies go through growth spurts too, don't worry about it, just make sure you're good and hydrated before your scan! Good luck!

I find it a bit disturbing a doctor would estimate your date based on a pelvic examination, and then make you worry! You are fine - the scan will be much more accurate. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Okay, I am officially not going to worry about it then I'm looking forward to the ultrasound, but not the having to hold 40 oz. of water in my bladder, LOL! But I'll do anything for this baby Thanks for your reassurance, ladies, it means a LOT

hey ladies...am new to this forum! and just had my first prenatal visit. doc said i just completed 7 weeks. i had an Ultrasound too but my baby measured only 5 weeks
am really really sad......

but Doc told me today that i am measuring only 5weeks - it was from US and at my 7th week....not sure what to do! I am in the same boat as cupcakemomma...i hope everything goes well at my next US next friday... (I will pray for you cupcakemomma)

cupcake - Did they tell you to drink so much water? They usually do internal ultrasounds when you're this early on... though if you're a nice slim lady an external might work fine (might not see the hb as well as you would on an internal).

Waiting - any chance you ovulated later than you think?

Lisaf, yes, it's an external one. I don't know if maybe they'll do an internal one also? I had both one right after the other several months ago (for a non-pregnancy issue). Guess I'll have to wait and see...

they will probably do an internal if they can't get a clear enough pic with external... as for your dr saying you are measuring small with only pelvic that is ridiculous as you could have a tilted uterus or many other things that is super hard for them to feel this early on... I wouldn't worry about it since they have not done a US on you yet... I bet you are fine..

waiting.. sorry hun.. I was told the same thing last september and it didn't turn out well but I was bleeding from day one.. so I will pray for you and hope your US next week goes well

thank you for all your support ladies!
mine was an internal US not an external one and still I measured small. Also there has been no bleeding for me. I do not know what to expect - they did one bloodtest on me Friday and one is tonight.
then next US this coming Friday.....I guess both I and Cupcakemomma are waiting eagerly for Friday to arrive
