Advantages and disadvantages of living in the USA?

Advantage: I'm quite enjoying being in the USA with a London accent right now, people don't stop telling me how great my accent is. People are so friendly here but I'm sure they go that extra mile for me just because of my accent :haha:

Disadvantage: People don't get what I'm saying sometimes, I've started having to think about what i say before I say it and use words like trash, trunk and vacation (sounds trivial but it's a bit annoying!) Plus I'm always getting the date mixed up, it should be the same as in the UK because it just makes sense. And 2 pin plugs are pants. I miss our solid 3 pin plugs!

But apart from that I'm loving it here :)

Looking at this thread it seems the major issue is the healthcare. We recently went to Florida and I was speaking to a few Americans over there, one lady from Texas and she was telling me that she is in agony with her knee (she was in a wheelchair) she told me that she had had surgery on one of her knees but the other one needed doing and she was saving up. It took her years to save for the one already done and she was in for the long haul for saving for the other one. I was so shocked and was telling her about the NHS and that she would of been put on a waiting list for the operation and it would be done within 6 months. She wants to move to the UK!!!

I would love to move to the US, it really appeals to me, but having a child with Cerebral Palsy and we rely heavily on the NHS for equipment, Physio, Occupational therapy, Eye care doctors, metabolic doctors, paediatricians, there is no way we could go with the health care system the way it is.

This is what scares me about the USA, the health system. Canada has free healthcare for all (not straight away when you move- from research it's after 6 months).

Everyone says you can choose your Dr over there, with regards to GP's I chose mine, specialists you don't have a choice though.

If hubby got offered a job in the USA with amazing health cover, then yeah I'd go there though! He is fortunate that there *could* be opportunities for him abroad, they have overseas agents they hire. We aren't looking to move for another 4 years any way (financial committments) x

Hehe, don't worry Nut Shake! I understood what you were talking about! I call them plugs too, didn't know I was in the minority though!
