Hi,

I am new to posting in this, but have been browsing for a little while

I have been TTC for just under a year. I am currently under going tests to see if I have PCOS as my 21 day bloods came back as having not ov, My doctor is pretty sure this is what I have but just waiting for a scan date to confirm. I’m not sure as I have a very regular p and thought that the main sign of PCOS was an irregular cycle??

My H has just received the results of his sperm test, and it came back as showing low count, poor mortality and poor progression. They said that only 10% looked normal. The doctor has passed him on to a urologist and we are just waiting for the appointment date.

In both our cases the doctor didn’t really explain what our chances are now and what the next steps will be. Can anyone advise what this would be and if they have been faced with anything similar …?

Thanks for your help, having just found we are a bit stunned and not really sure if we have much chance of ever getting pg.

Thanks!!

Hey there hun,

I can only tell you what my DH has been through but hope that helps a bit. He has a low count of 1 million with 25% motility (morphology is good). He did his first SA and was advised to come back for a second a month later as there can be differing results. In that time we changed his diet, started taking Wellman tablets, 1000mg of Vit C as well as Maca herbal tablets.

A second test in September showed no improvement and we were referred to the fertility specialist at our local hospital.

When we went here they lined me up for further tests. I had already done my bloods but i had an HSG test where they inject dye into your tubes to see if there are any blockages and also had a scan of my ovaries - this was to check for PCOS and Endo amongst other things - i think that you will probably have this at some point.

My DH had another SA done in Jan and this showed an improvement from 1 million to 8 million. A 'normal' count is regarded as 20-99 million, with 50% motility and 30% morphology.

Our next appt was 3 months after our first appt and they went through all our results. DH is now having blood tests to check his hormone levels as well as a chromosome/DNA test to establish why his count might be so low. The chromosome test takes 5 months to come back so is a lengthy wait.

With me being 'okay' and DH having low count - we have been put on the waiting list for ICSI IVF.

Depending on what the results were like for your DHs SA - this could possibly be the route you guys end up taking? Hopefully when you see the specialist they will talk about things a bit more clearly with you so that you feel a bit more informed :hugs:

I wish I could be of more help then this, but I do know that getting your period every month doesn't mean you ovulate every month and PCOS is an ovulatory issue, so i don't think regular periods rule you out necessarily. Also, my doctor said that RE's are "handing out PCOS diagnosis" more often and they are now discovering different levels of the disorder. For instance, she called my condition an Ovulatory Related Reproductive Issue, and said she considers in a "cousin" of PCOS. So, in actually, you can read about PCOS and see similarities and differences in your condition, yet your RE could just label your issue as PCOS and call it a day. Does all that rambling make any sense? LOL

My doc put me on Clomid, and will follow up with Progesterone post- ovulation, so that may be a route they go with you.

Have you had a HSG, Hysteroscopy, and complete bloodwork drawn yet? They will probably order these, as they are routine infertility testing as well.

As for your husband's results, I have no idea what the next step would be. Hopefully some of the other ladies can help with that.

The appointment to discuss your DH's sperm results will be the biggest decider.

There are treatments for PCOS (mainly clomid) but for very poor sperm, unfortunately IVF/ICSI is the only option if vit/min tablets don't help.

I hope you get more answers soon xx

Thanks for all your comments and help so far.

So far i have had all bloodwork done, and just waiting on the last batch of results - mainly for testosterone. I am just waiting for the hospital letter to confirm the scan date to look at my overaries, i dont think i have ovulated again this month..

As for H we have tried zinc previously but thats about it. He eats a well balanaced diet, exercises, never smoked and doesnt drink excessively so can't really think about any lifestyle changes for him.

I'm just hoping that the doctor is a bit more imformative when i go back for my next appointment.... Just feel a bit dazed by all this at the moment .
