Hi,

Can anyone help me out?

My 6 week old is bringing up what looks like his whole bottle after feeding, he actually seems to projectile vomit, its not just a little whilst burping.

He doesn't do this every feed but its happening at least once a day.

My MIL says that DH did the same thing and I am being told by friends its normal for babies to be sick, but really, this much?

I am feeding him SMA gold, he takes around 120 ml per feed.

He does suffer from wind and seems to have a blocked nose, not sure if sick has gone up his nose or something.

I was at the GP last week about the blocked nose and they said he's fine I am just worried though.

He was born early at 35 weeks, but was checked over and is fine, he was 6lbs 6 oz and is now 8 lbs 8 oz so has put on weight despite the sickness.

Is this really normal? Id there anything I can do to help it, it seems to really scare him after its happened. :nope:

Have you got the slowest flow for the bottle teets? My lo has only projectiled his whole bottle once, but all babies are different. Sounds like your lo is gaining well though so I wouldn't be too worried :) x

A lot of babies suffer from reflux-ours does. Talk to HV and GP. They can prescribe baby gaviscon and you can try special reflux formula. As long as he is gaining weight you needn't worry though.

Thanks for your replies, I will speak to HV when she comes next week and stick to the slow flow teats.

I found a few things helped my daughter.

Firstly we stopped regularly for burping. Around every 60ml. I have slowly increased this and now burp her at around every 100ml.

I would feed her sat up a little and not lying flat in my arms. Also kept her upright for about 10 mins after feeding before lying her down. But I will say she wasn't doing it every feed. Sometimes once a day, sometimes only twice a week. Sometimes straight away and sometimes 10-20 mins after finishing her feed.

I also read somewhere that it does look a lot when it comes up.

Thanks, thats really helpfull.

My little boy had always been a sicky baby he would bring up about 1-2oxatevery feed I burping, projectile 2/3 times a day and be sick in the night was constantly covered in sick. Doctors weren't bothered as he was gaining weight and otherwise happy. The congestion will be from the sick my little boy was the same. Make sure he's always slightly elevated especially at night. If he's gaining weight it's just something we have to put up with, drbrowns bottles seemed to make austins a little better.

Now at 6 months he's more or less stopped being sick thank god

I like using Nose Frida Snot Sucker to suck out my LO's boogers when she sounds stuffy. I have a mini party once the itty bitty booger is out.

My daughter did this right around when we switched her to bottles. A few things to think about: he might be eating too much at once (try feeding less but more often) and maybe consider trying a different formula brand. My daughter had a terrible time with Hipp Organic (projectile vomiting and reflux) but it stopped as soon as we switched her back to Cow and Gate. I even tested to make sure it really was the formula by ocassionally doing a bottle of Hipp (sure enough, vomiting and reflux came back!). I've heard SMA can be rough on tummies for some babies.

HV advised me to change formula, I switched from SMA to Aptamil and hes a lot better, not perfect but a lot better.

so for anyone reading with the same issue maybe change formula..

above advice is good too!

Thanks ladies x
