ok my little man is 3 and a half weeks old, i have a 21 month old little girl who sleeps through but not a heavy sleeper, my hubby and i sort of do split shifts  he stays up with lil max till his early morning feed which is about 1.30am then brings him up, then when he wakes again its over to me!! my health visitor told me to leave him to cry for a bit, which would be fine if he didnt wake my daughter so get into the BAD habbit of bringing him downstairs where he sleeps like an absolute star, on the puffet on his really cosy blanket, on his belly he will go hours, why wont he do the same upstairs??

any advice would be sooooo appreciated i really dont wanna get him in the routine of comming downstairs when he wakes up.

literally last night he went 6 hrs on the puffet, woke up for a couple of hours i fed him at 7pm then he slept till 1.30am perfect, hubby fed him and bought him up at 2.30 am then i was up with him crying and being really fidgety at 4am then my daughter started stirring so i bought him down at 4.45!! i cant deal with 2 stroppy kids escpecially her at that time of the morning she is just like her mummy and NOT a morning person!!

thanks in advance guys xxx

Personally at that age I'd do whatever I had to to get through the night! Jasper and I slept on the couch together for about 3 weeks, because it was the one place we could both sleep peacefully without waking OH all night!

I made the decision that at 3 months to get rid of all the habits we'd developed, because I think under 3 months they dont really form 'habits' - mummies form habits, bubbies are still pretty flexible!

I would just do it. If you not happy with your decision in a fortnight, do something different, just try to not beat yourself up over forming bad habits, I dont personally see it being a BIG deal with little babies...

... but I could be wrong

Yep I agree with Chel...whatever gets you through the night and lets you have some sleep.I also slept on the sofa for about 2 weeks with Patrick....and a week ago he went into his own cot no problems.

i kinda went through the same thing..my daughter was nearly three when my son was born and she was a really light sleeper we had to walk around on tip-toes at night so we didnt wake her up. Liam took a while to get used to his cot they just dont like being moved its probably just comfier on the poof thing. I would start him upstairs and keep him upstairs....my daughter adapted to life with newborn and now she can sleep through a bomb so dont worry its early days your daughter will adapt. My partner was never as good as that to do shifts i did it all single handed he isnt very hands on unfortunately,=. I used to keep liam in a moses downstairs on the stand and then when i wanted to go bed i would just carry him up in the moses still and put the moses in the cot so he wasnt moved from warm sheets etc
good luck it will get easier xx
p.s your daughter is so pretty!
