Sorry if this is long... But i need some advice, but i am sooooo stressed!

Bit of backround, LO is 6,weeks today, bottle fed from 4 days old on Aptamil.

About 2/3 weeks we thought he may have a bit of colic so we started him on Infacol on the advice of our HV, but it seems to make him poo less. He only poos now every 3rd day, and on that day, before the poo he is extremely cranky, unsettled and just generally unhappy. The hv told us to use colief but i didnt as the fact it hajs to be made in advance doesnt work for us as he feeds on demand and can be quite irregular.

At the weekend i started him on Aptamil comfort, i havent really noticed a change in him yet, y'day was day 3 and he had a huge poo, his poo is still very soft. I have been for his 6 week check today and the gp has given me a lactulose medicine to try and make him more regular.

I feel really stressed about whether i am doing the right thing, i dont like the Comfort milk, it seems too thick and the water has to be boiling to mix properly, ive had to buy new teats and im not sure they are any better! Because they dont do ready made, i dont know how i will manage it when i go out!

I just wanted to ask someone who has used it, did you find it helped your lo once you switched?

What bottles and teat sizes do you use?

How do you manage night feeds? Ive been taking a flask to bed and mixing half and half with cooled boiled water.

What do you do when you go out? The couple of times a week i go out, i wonder if it would do any harm to use normal Aptamil?

Hi,

We switched LO and saw a huge improvement. We use tommee tippee bottles and variflow teats.

We don't have night feeds any longer but when we did we used a flask with water that had been boiled and stood for 30 mins before being added to the flask, it would be a bit hot but we cooled it in a jug whilst we changed his nappy.

In the day when out and about we use the insulated bags and they keep the water warm, i just judge how hot it needs to be in the first place, ie if i know it will be 2 hours till he feeds i have the water quite warm since i now know how to judge roughly how quickly they cool in the insulated bags (hope that makes sense). We then use a powder dipenser to measure out the scoops he needs and then add them when making the feed. If i don't think the water is hot enough to mix the powder properly then i will heat the water a little before adding the powder (assuming we have the facilities to do that)

I would not personally use normal aptamil when you go out just yet, maybe do it when your LO is older and the colic should have passed. We are slowly switching our LO over to nomal aptamil now because we could not get comfort milk anywhere...... We are doing this gradually (on health visitors advice) so one bottle comfort, one aptamil and so on. LO is 4 months now though so hopefully he should be past the colic phase.

We switched to comfort and Emmy became constipated. We now have aptimal hungry baby and all movements are daily and normal consistency.
We use tommee tippee vari flow teats with it :)

Hope this helps x

Sorry forgot to answer other question

Night feeds... When we had a night bottle we would pre prepare 2/3rds sterile cool water, top up remainder with boiled when needed and add powder
(Mini kettle in bedroom)
