Advice needed

Hi I'm new to this and I just need some advice please. I recently found out I was pregnant which was a shock but but once we had come to terms with it my partner and I were both happy until we had our 12 week scan which put us at 13 weeks pregnant. My issue is that we were not together 13 weeks ago we were on a break and only decided to give it another go 10 weeks ago! He is now panicking because obviously these dates don't match. Whilst we were not together I had a one night stand (to my shame) but this person had had a vasectomy 15 years ago and my partner wants a DNA test which I can understand. Is it more likely the scan has dated it wrong or could I have gotten pregnant by this other guy? Thanks on advance

IMH, I would say it would be more likely that the dating scan was off a little. It does happen sometimes. The failure rate of a vasectomy is about .15%, and most of the time women would become pregnant within the first 6 months after a vasectomy. But that isn't to say it couldn't happen this long after either, just not as likely.

Sweetie. The way dating works is that day one of your pregnancy is the day you most likely started your cycle. At the end of week 2 is when you would have conceived (give or take a few days), which sounds like when you just got back together with your OH.
For example, I'm 14.5 weeks pregnant and the sex that led to this baby happened about 12.5 weeks ago.

It would seem more likely that the dates on the scan are slightly off, although having had a 10 week scan and a 13 week scan the baby does look a lot more developled by 13 weeks so I would have thought a go id sonographer would be able to tell that.

Are you absolutely certain that this other guy definitely had a vasectomy?

Ok, so let me get this straight. 13 weeks ago you weren't together. And you're also 13 weeks pregnant. You got back together 10 weeks ago... Yeah, it could be his. Remember, pregnancy starts the last day of your last period, when you're not "technically" pregnant. So 2-3 weeks after your last period did you two have sex? You would have been back together by then. Thus, it could be his.

But then the guy could have lied about his vasectomy?

The scan could be wrong too but not as likely as early ultrasounds are pretty accurate with scanning. But it could happen.

By the time you're pregnant you're technically 2-3 weeks "pregnant" already because of the weird way they date it with our cycles. Also baby could just be measuring a week ahead, at my 12 week scan baby was measuring at 13 weeks but now at my 20 week scan baby's right on at 20

Then again, is it possible the guy lied about the vasectomy...

As many have said the dating scan could be a tad off, & yes pregnancy is dated two weeks further then when ur actually pregnant - so confusing but hey it's life.. But also vasectomies I hate to say it are known to possibly reverse after so many years, obviously not every vasectomy does but there's a small percentage it could. The only way to know for sure is a DNA test as horrible as it may be Hun x

Rather than going off a dating scan, try this. Go to www.pregnology.com
Click on the "all days of your pregnancy" option. You can enter either the date of your last period or your estimated due date. It will then give you the estimated date of ovulation and conception. See if that helps, it may give you an idea of if the 2 of you were back together then or not.

Thank you all very much for your advice it has meant a lot I just wish this nightmare would be over so that I can start enjoying my pregnancy 😔

I have known the other guy for 10 years so I know he has had the vasectomy but I also know they can reverse themselves.

I think we are going to look at non invasive paternity testing (I need to check this out first as I wouldn't do it if there were risks) just so we can get on with our lives and start enjoying this pregnancy together
